A little sandy and gravelly on the track which means you can pick up some dirt on the sneakers and your track suit trouser. The sneakers would also need more frequent replacement because of the wear and tear of the little pebbles that abound throughout the circular twin tracks. Beyond this, however, it's a very convenient amenity for residents of DHA Phase 5 and thereabouts because of the park's proximity for those wanting to stretch their legs in a secure and clean environment--a rare green spot in Karachi's sprawling jungle of concrete.
The entrance fee is Rs. 30 for adults and Rs. 20 for children (not sure about the latter amount though). Another Rs. 30 is charged for cars parked inside the gated entrance.This must be rough for larger, less well off, families residing in Shirin Jinnah Colony who may wish to avail the park's facilities but may find the cost a barrier. This is a microcosm of the glaring inequality of services available to different income groups in Pakistan. (An aspiring researcher may examine the impact of the entry cost on the use by different economic groups as we have a natural experiment with both rich and poor living in the same geographic zone.)
Overall the park attracts a very decent and educated class of persons who are health conscious as well as mindful of the norms of respect for others who are like-minded. One should be grateful for some relief from the maddening congestion...
