Zulu Rooftop — Restaurant in Asuncion

Our experience at Zulu Rooftop was nothing short of a masterclass in how to deter repeat customers. From the moment we attempted to book a table to the very second we left, it was an exercise in disappointment.Booking a table proved to be a displeasing experience in itself. After what felt like an eternity, we received a cryptic response to our query about heating options on their outdoor terrace: a single word, "agendada". Such brevity, such clarity. Upon arrival, we were graciously offered the only choice of sitting outside in the brisk 13-degree air (yes, there are rare chilly days in Paraguay). Heaters were present but, in a brilliant twist, were non-functional, the waitress said. The staff's solution? A plaid blanket, for which we were later charged 16,000 guarani— a delightful surprise we were not forewarned about. (We should have taken the plaids with us to dispose them in return). The pièce de résistance of our visit was the service, which was conveniently mediocre. Tips, already included in the bill, were a testament to their confidence in their own inadequacy. Our waitress, displaying impressive impatience, didn't bother to listen to our full order before retreating to the warmth inside, where a corporate event was clearly a higher priority than paying customers left to shiver outside. Despite our advanced booking, we were denied the apparent luxury of indoor seating, an act of sheer audacity and disrespect. Overall, the service could have been more attentive, the portions more generous, and the prices more reasonable. The only redeeming feature of Zulu Rooftop was the view, a small consolation in an otherwise regrettable...

No se merecen ni una estrella. que mi amiga vino de visita a mi país y queríamos salir e ir en un lugar lindo. Frecuento mucho estos lugares inclusive festeje mi cumpleaños allí y la verdad jamás pensé que este lugar tiene preferencias por la manera que uno viste, ví en varias ocasiones que chicas van con blusitas escotadas que se le ven hasta el ombligo con jeans o chicas que llevan blusas con espalda abierta con un tajo enorme, no veo el problema realmente, está bien y mi amiga se fue vestida con un jeans y un body. Llegamos al lugar y Yo no hice la reserva por qué la verdad pensé que no había tanto problema con eso,por qué también en varias ocasiones no lo hice y siempre hay lugar. Llegamos el guardia nos recibe, nos saluda etc " tienen reserva?" "no" le dijimos , "no pueden entrar" si no reservan no pueden entrar y le preguntamos pero hay lugar aún ? Y nos dice que "No" que ya está lleno". Y como voy mucho a ese lugar, generalmente no es así, me pareció muy extraño, entonces llamamos, cuál fue la sorpresa??? que si había lugar, entonces hicimos reserva, volvimos a entrar, le dijimos al guardia que ya reservamos y el guardia automáticamente nos dice "que no podemos entrar" y por qué ? Si ya tenemos reserva ((Ojo, aparte de mentirnos)) , el guardia responde "nos reservamos al derecho de admisión" y le dije que significa eso? y me vuelve a repetir " nos reservamos al derecho de admisión" pero ya nos alzó la voz , gente todo el tiempo amablemente le hablamos al guardia y el señor nos alzó la voz, re prepotente. Pero por qué ? Que paso? "No pueden entrar" No me dieron más ninguna explicación, llamamos a recepción y le dijimos que no, nos deja entrar y ahí nos dice la chica que puede que sea por la manera en que vino vestida y que se reserva al derecho de admisión. Tremendo el mal rato que nos hicieron pasar, encima el guardia del otro lado se estaba riendo de nosotros, mi amiga vino de tan lejos para pasar bien , después de tantos años sin vernos 💔 Tan mal rato nos hicieron pasar, que mi amiga ya no quiso ir a ningún lado con el miedo de que la discriminen,solo por un body que Dios mío gente, los jóvenes nos vestimos así, encima con el tremendo calor que hacía. Deberían de informar en su página está regla tan estúpida, para no hacer pasar malos ratos e ir a perder el tiempo y encima tratarnos mal, al menos ya nos tenía que dar a la primera explicación y no mentirnos como...

I had tried this place years ago when they first opened and was not impressed. Especially since it has the "African" vibe I was expecting food that was at least somewhat different than what you can find in every other paraguayan restaurant. But it was the same as other restaurants and unremarkable. Fast forward a few years and a new owner, we've rediscovered the place and been here three times since the pandemic. The food is some of more finer dining we've had in Paraguay, rivals that of the old Luna 21 which was inconsistent but when it was good it was good. The view is amazing and the patio is romantic.
