I found this place only by searching for Indian restaurants, otherwise there's really not much to point you in their direction. They don't advertise much at all, and they're tucked away in the TL Shopping Plaza on Manila N Road. The nice thing is there's a parking lot directly in front as an integral part of TL Plaza, and it's free. Walking in to the Royal Place I noticed that I was the sole guest, I had my choice of seating. The place is exceptionally clean, quiet, and there's Indian type music playing from the back. My waitresses were Filipina but I was pleasantly surprised to see that the proprietor is an Indian national. A few more guests arrived (it was a Friday, about 8:00pm) and for starters I ordered butter naan, raita, and black tea with sugar. If I had been in doubt then the quality and authenticity of the bread and raita stated that this was a true Indian restaurant. The menu is large and full of sub-continent dishes, with most having a detailed description. I ordered spicey Chicken Vindaloo (spelled Vindallo in the menu) and plain Basmati rice. Here's where I must confess, the Vindaloo was far from good. It tasted like a cardboard paste, almost as if a powdered Vindaloo mix was slightly moistened with water. It was unwholesome tasting, at best. The Basmati was perfect. I decided not to question the staff about the main dish and instead hit on a plan to come back and try the Biryani and a few curries next time. I have a suspicion there had been a mistake made, better to let it slide and find out the real quality of this venue at a later time. I'll be writing about that soon so check back...
Read moreTried the biryani, cheesy garlic naan, mango shake with yogurt, and the Manchow soup with vegetables.
Tried the biryani recently and honestly, it was a bit disappointing. The rice was too plain—didn’t really have that flavor or kick you’d expect. The chicken was also kind of dry, not juicy at all. Overall, it just felt like it was missing something. Could’ve used more spices or sauce to bring everything together.
But the cheesy garlic naan? Top notch. I loved the gooey cheese and that garlicky kick—super flavorful and definitely the highlight of the meal!
Also had the mango shake with yogurt, and it was super refreshing! Perfect balance of sweet and tangy.
As for the Manchow soup, it’s not bad but not really giving either. Just okay. It could use more depth and seasoning to...
