I went there with low expectations but was pleasently surprised. Entering the restaurant I was happy with the ambiance and setting. There were three waiting staff, the restaurant was empty, 6pm. We took our seats. Hard wooden furniture, no cushions. We ordered a bottle of Yellowtail red wine, P880, a little pricey. It was duly presented in an ice bucket. Remember, the philippines is a hot country and room temperature red wine would have been about 28 degrees, so the ice bucket was an excellent idea. However, at no point did the staff offer to open, present or serve the wine. Disappointing. I did this for myself. The menu was good with a variety of steaks and local dishes. I opted for the lamb shank, P700, and my companion opted for the New York Sirloin, P980. We were also offered the choice of an appetiser, vegetable soup or salad, we opted for the salad. The salad arrived and I was taken aback by the amount of dressing that had been slopped over the dish. It looked like a ladle of gravey had been poured over the top. I would have preferred the option of having the dressing served as a condiment. The dressing wasn't bad, balsamic vinegar based and home made. There was just too much of it. The salad composed of carrot, tomatoes, onion, lettuce, and capsicum pepper. Our main courses arrived. Mine first, we waited a few minutes for my companions steak to arrive, it would have been nice to have had them at the same time. Now the shank was beautifully cooked and the lamb fell off the bone. The fine green beans were cooked to perfection and were fresh. The mashed potatoes however, were loaded with cheese. Not something I expected and I would have preferred the option of with or without the cheese. I would say that I enjoyed the mash immensely. My partners steak, medium rare, was slightly over done and quite salty, infact had it been my order, I would have sent it back. The steak was of a reasonable cut but not the most tender of meat. Similarly, cheesy mash and fine green beans. A gravy had been added to the plate which again, I feel could have been served as a condiment. I didn't find the staff attentive or professional, food was plonked on the table and should have been served from the right. An explanation of what had been presented would have been nice. When not busy, which was pretty much all the.time, they chatted loudly in the background. I didn't leave much of a tip. Perhaps a little etiquette training would have been good for them. The bill was P2800. Our experience was OK, the restaurant was pleasant, the food OK but a tad pricey but the staff could have been better trained in their duties. Overall 6/10. I would go back. Just a quick note, the staff gave us a hearty farewell and opened the door for us. We were greeted with.a beggar and the steps, I gave her more than I left as a tip! Reading through my critique I feel it is truthful and accurate, just so the reader and restaurant understand my experience. It is view and may not resemble the...
