Although I agree with all reviews citing the freshness and variety of the seafood and decent meat offerings, I was appalled at the pricing. This is an American owned restaurant, so be prepared to pay U.S. +++ prices. We've been to Boracay 10 times in 10 years, and prices are cheaper there. We live on the Gulf Coast of the US and eat shrimp, prawns, and steak regulàrly. We live in Davao 2 months a year. This place is for the rich and famous of Davao and basically a rip-off for the general populace. My wife, sister-in-law, 8 yo son, and myself had 1000 kg of prawns, 3-400 kg of what they call beef fingers, a kinilaw appetizer, 4 rice, small portion of corn and sausage, 2 ice tea, 1 coke, and a Stella beer for 4000 pesos! We used to live in So Cal and eat at a famous steakhouse for that price! The prawns were plentiful and tasty but tough. The beef was somewhat tasty, but raw, fatty, and tough. The beer was warm. The kinilaw wasn't tuna and was tough. Overall, they need to shave about 1000 off the price, and super chill the beer. And lastly, I agree with some reviews that most reviewers are lying about pricing and I would bet are being "fed" by the owner to give positive reviews. Happens a lot on Google and Amazon.
It’s nice to see the owner finally replied to my review from over 3 years ago. We are back in the Philippines and may have to revisit this joint and re-review. For now buster, I asked YOUR staff at that time who the owner was and they said “Kano”. My pinay wife was there and verified I wasn’t hearing incorrectly. As for the pricing I agree with all you said about beef, so rarely eat that here anymore. For context, born and raised New York for 30 years. Then California for 30 years. Now Texas 7 years. We live on the gulf coast and pay about 8-9 USD for a pound (454g) of jumbo shrimp. Aside from Texas I’ve lived in metro areas and dined out extensively at some of the best. Been to Manila, Cebu City, Davao City, and Boracay about 10-12 times on extended vacays. Numbeo rates Davao City as one of the cheaper places to live in the world! Since when do you have to pay and arm and a leg to import prawns/shrimp, lechon, pork ribs, squid, tuna, etc. in the Philippines? Go ahead and tell the Google audience what your markup is. Since when should beer NOT be ice cold! So with all this in context we will make another trip, and give you the benefit of doubt. More to come...
Read moreThe Surf and Turf Meat and Seafood Grill will be officially opening on the 27th of October 2017, however I was lucky enough to be able to attend a pre-opening function last night and meet Mr Jay York who is behind this enterprise.
If last night was anything to go by then this new restaurant has a bright and rosy future, crab, shrimp, ribs and steak all cooked to perfection accompanied by the house sauces and garnishes. Combine this with attentive staff, reasonable prices and original and well thought out decor and Mr York should be on to a sure fire winner.
The restaurant is located in a prime and prestigious part of Davao City, just past the Swiss Deli opposite NCCC...
Read moreWe had medium spicy shrimps, a portion of Shortribs, rice and potatoes. All food was nice and tasty.
One, for me, important thing I want to mention especially is that the shrimps came now cleaner than a few weeks ago. They got cut off in the upper part and the intestine was removed. I appreciate that, because in many Filipino restaurants this is not done and I just find that yucks.
A visit at Surf & Turf still feels a bit pricey but at least we got good food for our money. Would I go again there? Yes, i would, sadly not that often like i would want to, because of the higher price. With a price tag of 1.700p we can eat very well at other places for half or 1/3...
