This place is the main restaurant for The Reef Hotel and Resort.
Our first experience was eating our hotel breakfast there but it was so amazing that we ended up eating there several more times over the next few days.
When I first got started I thought it was a traditional buffet breakfast as we saw the food when we walked in. We were greeted by our server and given a small menu and told that we should order our main entree, cooked to order and also enjoy the buffet foods. I was a little confused at first but so pleasantly surprised later. We ordered the Omelette with house potatoes and scrambled eggs over French toast.
Then we went to the buffet. I was blown away by the fresh breads and pastries there, so many varieties to choose from, artisan breads, hand-made pastries and cupcakes, flavored breads, bread puddings, paired with fresh made jams and other toppings, wowow...I was disappointed that I couldn't try it all. In addition to that there was perfectly ripened fresh fruits, many delicious prepared salads on top of a great salad buffet section with a large selection of toppings. They also had a homemade soup, meat cheese and nut plates and lots of other finger food type items.
We delighted in our buffet foods and fresh drinks and were very happy already, but then the main course arrived. My made-to-order ham, cheese & mushroom omelette was not only huge (maybe 5 or 6 eggs) but scrumptious as well. The fresh breakfast potatoes were a perfect pair. My Fiance got the scrambled eggs with peppers, onions, mushrooms, ham & cheese and it was served on top of perfectly toasted and buttered bread. It looked so good that I couldn't let her eat it alone and had to have some of her food too. Needless to say we were stuffed, with delicious foods. It was soo good I just wanted to keep eating but couldn't even breathe.
Over the next several days we tried every single breakfast main course dish and all were awesome. The best of them all was the fresh home made spam...oh my gosh how yummy. Start there and if you can check them all out.
Important to note was the fact that the service level equaled or exceeded the food, if that was even possible. They served us fresh fruits without even asking, they got us fresh coffee and juices and literally anticipated our every need. I was amazed. I expect that from 5 star or fine dining establishments but not from a hotel breakfast buffet. Kudos to the owners and managers. Our breakfast wasn't just to eat food, it was a joyful, pleasant, surprising EXPERIENCE! It was so nice it actually set the tone for the rest of our day.
I would stop here but I have to tell you about our lunch and dinner experience there as well. If I lived close by, my family would eat there a couple times a week. The al-a-cart food was moderately priced but when you see the portion size of the dishes you realize what a great value this chef created food was.
For dinner we got the Chicken Curry noodles and another dish with pad Thai noodles with shrimp, chicken and tofu with a tasty sauce. One of the other meals we got the braised ribs with soy ginger sauce. Nothing we got was bad or even soso, it was all unique, flavorful and scrumptious. In addition it was such a huge portion, good for sharing for 2-4 people.
Whether you are just travelling to Mactan, staying at the Reef Resort or even a local to the area you MUST put The kitchen on your list to try again and again. What a great discovery, we will be back many many times. Again, congratulations to the owners, management and staff. It takes a lot to make this guy happy with food, value, atmosphere and service level....but you have exceeded all my...
Read moreWell I have no idea how to describe the experience. I had 2 guest and in fairness their food was good tasty and they enjoyed it. Now to my Food. I ordered Beef Angus curry and was excited as previously on another Visit I got Nasi Gorang but it was so salty I could not eat it. When the food arrived I noticed my Bastatic Rice had some rice with brown sauce on it so I called the waiter and a lady came and took my plate and said she will change it. To be honest it look like maybe leftovers scooped into it or mixed with end if the rice as the other 2 guests no rice was delivered and we all needed wait, so im sure I got the scraps. Finally the rice arrived and I went to eat but to my surprise I found it hard to find the beef?? I dont eat the fat so I cut off what I could as you can see from the photo. It was like as 3 spoons dishnof rice with min beef. Nobody came to give me a new plate either When the manager came he asked was everything ok and I explained it was the worst dish I never had. In fairness to the Manager from here he did everything possible including 2 free wines and deserts for my 2 guests. Also the Non Beef Angus curry was taken off the Bill. For that I thank the manger and his explanation as to how it could happen he offered me a free take away dish to make up for it but came back to say the quality of the food was similar so he didnt include. So I have a 2/2 bad experience in this restaurant. My suggestion is to take it off the menu of change the description as it is not Angus Beef it is closer to Angus FAT. Overall service was fine but I left the restaurant more hungry than when I went in, so needed order a take away food having planned to go out for an enjoyable dinner , so very disappointed with the experience as I live just beside the resort but I am very reluctant to go back there, as when I go I...
Read moreMe and my Son have stay at The Reef Island Resort Hotel from 27th April - 2nd of March 2024. Room: 811. My husband joined the last day of our stay.
Me and my 9 years old son dinning at the THE KITCHEN first night after our check in. Ordered pomelo Salad and chicken wing and a glass of Chardonnay Australia.
The next day during the lunch time, me and my Son were sitting outside just across the door of The KITCHEN Restaurant. My Son ordered Pasta Bolognese and Fries from the other restaurant ( BAKERY ). And I ordered Glass of White Wine from The KITCHEN restaurant. This time The KITCHEN did not have Chardonnay… so I got a glass of Semilon - Souvignon Blanc Australia as they suggested. ( These were they charge me 1 bottle of wine instead of 1 glass without I realise it).
At night, we Dinner again at THE KITCHEN ordered Hainan Chicken, Pomelo Salad, white rice and glass of Chardonnay Australia.
The rest of our stay we did not dine at THE KITCHEN as my son preferred the food from the other restaurant (Bakery). But I always ordered a glass of white wine from THE KITCHEN in the afternoons.
On the cheek out my Husband was settling the bill. While I did the lastcheck of the room. While in the taxi on the way to the airport, I checked the bills and realise that THE KITCHEN have charge me 1 bottle of wine instead of 1 glass of wine on the second day afternoon of my stay. So I went back to the hotel and spoke to Luigi for the Kitchen and gave him my contact detail.
To Dear Luigi, please do get back to me related to this matter. Thank you .
Best Regards Okky...
