The only thing Irish about this pub is the name, I went there hoping to watch Ireland play NZ in the quarter finals of the rugby world cup with some atmosphere. When i got there the vintage TV was playing football!
I asked the barman if he was going to play the Rugby game? .... "maybe".... he said with the smile of someone who had been asked to walk across hot coals for the 100th time "whos playing" he followed with the lazy, lifeless voice of someone who had been cheering for their talentless child at a school show for over an hour.
"IRELAND!!!“ ... I said looking around the pub which had more irish things hanging off the roof than a museum of Irish culture. I felt like i was in a crazy fever dream where everything was off and the world didn't make sense!
The female bar staff beside the man looked at me with the stoney stare of someone who had survived a genocide and had almost lost the will to live.
We ordered two drinks to try forget the horrors of our experience of ordering those drinks and daring to ask if they were playing the most important game of a national sports team this year.
On the plus side the Guinness wasn't as bad...
