Pekin Duck — Restaurant in Warsaw

As a customer for over 6 years, today was my last visit to this restaurant. Along with my family, we ordered 5 piece meal, with beef on hot plate being one of them. Although I am well acquainted with the whole of the menu, I asked the waitress before ordering, is the beef clean and not fat heavy, are the pieces clean and without cartilage. I was assured it’s clean. I got my plate after 15 minutes, well after all other plates have arrived. The beef was undercooked, full of fat and cartilage, covered in sauce in order to disguise the awful quality of the meat. I tried to eat what I could, but after trying 4 slices out of the 12, I stopped eating, asked for the waitress and said that this is unacceptable, showing the fat and undercooked, cartilage-rich meat. She agreed, apologized, said that it will be removed from the bill, and I thought that would end the matter. However, suddenly the owner of the restaurant came, with the meat I just returned, but he put it back on the hot plate I originally got it from. He literally scooped up the meat from my lunch plate, and put it back on the hot plate, so that he could present visually how much I decided to bite and eat before I decided to return the plate! He came to our table and in English said “next time you want to not pay for a dish, don’t eat it. You don’t want to pay, fine, but don’t eat and the return”. This made me furious, to which I answered in English “this dish is disgusting, it’s unacceptable and I had to cut into it and try it here and there before I said that it’s impossible to eat. The mere fact that you come up to the table and try to ‘educate’ me on how to return dishes is unprofessional”. To which the owner says “yes yes but don’t eat, just return”, to which I literally used my hands, picked up the first piece of meat that he was holding, and showed it to him that it doesn’t break, removed the sauce with my fingers to show its red inside and not edible in the current state! The mere fact that I had to do this presentation to the owner with my own hands is ludicrous. He said ok, walked away to the bar, gesticulated to the staff to remove the meat from the bill and then kept on making me uncomfortable for pointing out the low quality of his meal. Like I said, I have been coming here for years, today is my last day and I will always tell of this story to my other colleagues. Unacceptable, unprofessional and rude...

While this place seems popular with Polish people, I do not see many Asians. After trying the duck, I know why:

Duck taste mediocre and no chef cut the duck in front of us. Usually for Peking duck, it’s customary for the chef to come out and cut the duck into pieces to prove you are getting a duck’s worth of meat and that the duck is fresh.

The kitchen took a long time to prepare food. Our dessert took 45 mins after our main course was finished. The waiter asked if we could have other desserts instead but we opted to wait. Also we asked for more pancakes for the duck, but were told we needed to wait 20 minutes. I think something was wrong in the kitchen or the speed of the kitchen staff. Many other guests were waiting a long time for their food and I saw at least one person had left because of the wait.

While the inside of the restaurant was almost packed, the manager or owner did not turn on the air conditioning in the middle of a hot summer day leaving me and other guests feeling hot, thus affecting our mood and taste buds. This is really bad customer service.
