If you’ve ever wanted to get BBQ’d fish and meat in an unfinished field with a few outbuildings and a repurposed food truck, all across the street from a mobile home park, look no further than Restaurante Roulotte do Sr. Antonio!!
The fish comes in big portions, is very fresh and well seasoned and expertly cooked. The pork ribs were delicious and very well seasoned. The kids hot dog came (unexpectedly) with crushed up bits of potato chips (crisps) on top and tasty fries (chips) on the side—all for 5 euros. Put simply, the owner/grill master knows his way around a BBQ.
Depending on your tastes, however, he is a truly abysmal DJ. For the seeming eternity we were there (more on that later), we were largely subjected to YouTube videos of what appeared to be Russia’s knock-off version of the Eurovision Song Contest. It was so bad (borderline torture, honestly, that wouldn’t have been out of place at Guantanamo Bay) that we couldn’t stop laughing. I’m giving the whole atmosphere 5 stars because of how unique it was; like dining in a very tasty episode of the Twilight Zone. But if you don’t want a bit of adventure and exposure to some of the worst songs the internet can possibly serve up, this is NOT the place for you.
That is especially true because you won’t be in and out quickly. The service is as slow as other reviewers suggest (read “glacial”), largely because the staff appears to be just the husband and wife team here; he behind the grill when not drinking quite a bit and cranking up the devil’s music, she in the food truck doing something unclear when not otherwise cleaning glassware and dancing overly attentively and with surprising gusto to the aforementioned video entertainment.
Do I regret going? Absolutely not. Would I ever go back? Not in a million years, except...
Read moreAt this place, everything was different from what we had imagined. It didn’t look impressive—made of sheet metal and a few garden tables. The staff was a lovely middle-aged couple. The menu, quite basic and typical for a bar, featured hamburgers, hot dogs, and… kebab. Well, it was the only open place in the area, so we didn’t complain.
However, we ordered fish—after all, we were about a kilometer from the water. And that’s where our big surprise began. I don’t know if it was intuition or sheer hunger, but we started eating the served salad without waiting for the rest. Olive oil, some spices, lettuce, onion, and tomatoes. Simple and brilliant at the same time.
Then came the fries, which we usually don’t care for, but these were excellent. Both these “dishes” made us think and raised the bar for the fish. It arrived on the plate shortly after. Sea bass, one of the two fish available here (the other was dorada), was great. Actually, that’s an understatement—the fish was perfect, nothing to add or take away.
Supposedly a lot of salt, yet it tasted exquisite and exactly as it should. A simple salad, yet it tasted excellent. Even the fries—simple, hand-cut—were fantastic, even though they were just fries.
The owner couple didn’t speak English well, but we managed to communicate wonderfully nonetheless. They were incredibly kind, and it was evident they put their whole hearts into their work. This review also comes straight from the heart. Places like this deserve exceptional support; there are so few left...

What a beautiful experience on the Algarve. I researched restaurants in my area on Google and found this very traditional outdoor restaurant ran by a couple with very charming characters.
I ordered a beer at the counter to speed up getting a drink and Sr. Antonio cracked the lid off my beer and it landed on a table full of people. That's the type of service I like!! 😊👍🏻
The service is slow but thorough the food amazing and cooked with passion and the atmosphere and charm of the place is perfect for a relaxed evening meal.
My advice is get there early as they do get busy and they take their time to prepare each dish so it can take time but watching the pair work together is part of the atmosphere and charm of the place.
They have a large drinks selection and the food is fresh (my salmon steak was perfectly seasoned with salt and lemon) and the vibe of the people waiting eating and enjoying themselves is what this restaurant is about.
Forget the local restaurants with confusing menus that don't give you the price they show. This place is real with real prices ran by real people.
Highly recommended if you can be patient! Thank you for a lovely relaxed...
