Restaurante Olive Bistrô & Gastro Bar — Restaurant in Albufeira

I am writing to formally express my deep disappointment and frustration following a very unpleasant experience at your restaurant in Albufeira, Portugal

My family, friends, and I visited your establishment expecting a welcoming and enjoyable dining experience, but unfortunately, we were met with rude and unprofessional behavior from a member of your staff. At one point during the evening, we were told — quite bluntly and unkindly — that we had “drunk too much champagne.” This comment was both inappropriate and offensive, particularly given that we were simply enjoying ourselves in a responsible and respectful manner.

Matters escalated further when one of my friends made a lighthearted and harmless joke, asking, “Are you going to give us a free cake because it’s my birthday?” Instead of responding with good humor or professionalism, the staff member became visibly irritated and proceeded to ask us to leave the restaurant. We were shocked and deeply offended by this overreaction, especially on what was supposed to be a joyful celebration.

The experience left us feeling humiliated and unwelcome, and it certainly does not reflect the level of hospitality we expected from a reputable restaurant.

I sincerely hope this message prompts you to look into the matter and ensure your staff is trained to treat all customers with courtesy and respect, regardless of the situation. No paying guest deserves to be treated the way we were.

We ate here based on a recommendation from a friend. It was my husband and I along with our 18yo son. We sat outside and were lucky enough to see a beautiful sunset while we ate. We started with some tapas. Octopus, carpaccio and something with cheese can’t recall the name of it but it was delish! No one in our family has food allergies but they asked about any allergies and they offer vegetarian and vegan options. Something that is not as common in Portugal as the US. For our meals I got a chicken dish. My husband got fish and my son a steak. The chicken was probably the best chicken I’ve had in a long time. The flavors were out of this world. My son tasted a bite and said that he didn’t know chicken could taste like that! My husband said the fish was good and my son loved the steak. The service was great as well. I’m still smiling the morning after our incredible experience at Olive Bistro & Gastro Bar last night. It has moved to the top of my list for dining! Tucked under an apartment complex and off the beaten track you will find an amazing gem! Greeted with a warm smile the servers were happy and wanted to serve! Helder is the real deal- he is true to the craft of service, gracious, attentive and knowledgeable with a delightful humor - he made our evening spectacular. The cocktails were lovely, large and priced reasonably. The wine list is approachable, unique and priced well. The oysters from Portimao were well received and delicious. The suckling pig & rack of lamb were cooked perfectly that we used our hands to get every morsel of meat!!!
