My friends and I recently enjoyed a memorable meal at this authentic Thai restaurant. Good Thai food is scarce in Portugal, and in the UK and our group comprised several Portuguese and UK-based Australians who miss the excellent Thai cuisine available in Sydney. So, as much as we love Portuguese - and British - food, our visit was an extra treat. We received a very warm and genuine welcome from Portuguese local Andre and his Thai wife, the talented chef, Noy. Every dish was well executed and packed with flavour. The complimentary lychee liquor served at the end of the meal was a lovely touch to end a great evening's dining. First time at Bangkok Thai Barcelos. Lunch on Saturday with my brother, it was not crowded. Service was friendly and fast. The restaurant has a nice decor. Ordered Som Tam Taeng (papaya salad), green curry with tofu, and Phad Phak Ruammit (mixed vegetables). Appetizer and entrees were very delicious and traditional Thai style. The mixed vegetables have a nice sesame flavor which I love. The Som Tam Taeng is made with cucumbers in place of papaya and is spicy, delicious and love it. The green curry is loaded with tofu and vegetables and is the perfect balance of sweetness and spice. A few months ago, I was walking the Camino de Santiago, and had just undergone a rather tough day of walking. We ended in Barcelos, and frankly, there wasn’t a whole lot there to speak of. I was ready to get a simple meal, and head back to my accommodations. Then we found Bangkok Thai. I’ve had dozens and dozens of Thai meals throughout my life, in a handful of countries. This was the single best Thai meal I’ve had in my life before or after. I cannot recommend it enough.
