Papa Manuel Piornais I — Restaurant in Funchal

We ate dinner here. They have at least 5 locations in Funchal. This one is further down the street after passing the Papa Manuel II 100m ago. This part of the restaurant is themed like an old American West pub, a very fun decoration. Now, the pizza itself suffers from a very common problem in madeira: not every ingredient is used fresh. The mushrooms and pastas aren't fresh from the kitchen. Instead, they are canned or industrialized packaged. We ate a Magnolia, it was a good pizza, they mixed shrimp and chicken with a good sauce and you can trade the ingredients with no extra cost. We traded the bacon for pineapple. We don't recommend eating bacon here, the way it's cooked leaking all the fat to your pizza. Please AVOID BACON. I would also say that the mozzarella was a little bit chewy. Overall, for the standard in Funchal, I would say that this is an above average...

Gotta say it wasn't impressive at all. The pizza was fresh and ok but nothing to get excited about. The atmosphere was good for an open air restaurant although they may need to think about putting plastic owls at the front to discourage the pigeons from entering. The staff were largely disinterested. There were only two tables occupied while I was there but three wait staff were more concerned about preparing for evening service. There is that expression about "a bird in hand".

Made to wait 30 minutes for my bill and then was chastised by the "manager" for my North American interpretation of what service should be when I commented on the wait. Maybe a sign at the entry declaring that customers are expected to chase wait staff for their bill would clarify your...

Went here as there were good reviews and it was open late on a Sunday. May have been the worst pizza I have ever eaten.

After being told “10 minutes” we waited 30+ minutes for a pizza with mostly fresh toppings (fresh tomato and basil) only to open the box to find a cold pizza with non-melted cheese. 25€ for a cold, bland, and frankly awful pizza.

Also ordered a pasta dish that came out hot but again was very bland.

Servers were not very friendly, scoffed at us for paying with card.

Save your time and money, go literally anywhere else. Confused at how this place has ever received a good review if this is the standards of their food.
