"The Augustines" - Restaurant — Restaurant in Loulé

We visited agostinhos at the recommendation of our taxi driver. Gosh were we impressed! I had the most delicious prawns I have ever eaten, freshly caught and cooked in a mind blowing sauce. We are all keen seafood and meat eaters so the opportunity to view the food before selecting off the menu was great (we had tiger prawns, Dover sole and squid). Nelson served us, and he was an absolute delight. Super attentive, helpful in terms of advising on the best dishes, and great wine recommendations too. The drinks are incredibly reasonably priced, and the food is also very affordable considering what you're getting. Having enjoyed the lunch so much, we returned the following evening for dinner. We tried more from the menu including sardines, fillet steak and the meat kebab, and were just as impressed as we had been the first time. In this area of Portugal there's great fresh seafood in many restaurants, but this one still managed to stand out for us. As someone who has eaten fresh seafood all over the world and ordered more prawn dishes than I can count, I can firmly say that the tiger prawns (the large ones) were the best I have ever eaten. I found this restaurant unique and amazing. The Place was absoloutly full of people so I was worried about the sevice but it was quick. What was amazing though is when you walk in you see the meat and fish counter with all the fresh produce they use so you see exactly what you are going to get. The quality of the food is so good as it is fresh.Yes it is grilled but excellently done. I had the Monkfish Kebab it was amazing, I must admit though I was a bit concerned after I ordered it as I had been in another restraurant a few months back and it was lousy because it wasnt fresh. In Os Ahostinos there was no nedd to worry the fish was fresh and the skewer was done to perfection. If I had a criticism it would be that I am going to find it hard to find a restaurant to match this one for price and quality of food. If you are looking for a yuppy standard of restraurant then this place is not for you but if you are looking for great food a wondrful family atmosphere and great food at a grat price you will find...

I read some of the negative reviews and I dismissed them. Sure the food was good. But the extra charges claim was true. You come in, atmosphere is busy and kinda like a cantine - no issue there. Service was good. They came with bread and olives before the meal.... And idk how about other people why I usually take a look at prices so I know how much I am gonna pay at the end... we got a bill that had EXTRA items on... one of them was the bread, butter and olives that normally in complementary and if not it should be stated at least at some point... it wasn't. I wasn't gonna argue cause I'm not gonna make a scene but the warnings that I have read from other people that I dismissed, were true and I advise you to be very aware when ordering there.
