Poor service. Opposite a building site. Great food but slow and rude.

While the lady who seated is was lovely, the male waiter was a problem. He dropped the dishes on the table like he was serving food in a jail, rough and unkind, and walked off without a word. He charged extra for items that he made us believe were included, like asking if we wanted a tart with or without ice cream and then charging €1.70 on top; or adding cheese to the table which we didn't ask for and charging €3 for it. He didn't bring us our coffees and neither were we able to order drinks during our meal. I had to get up and go to the drinks fridge myself during dinner because we were really thirsty. Finally, when I went to get the bill at the bar, he wouldn't make eye contact, didn't ask me why I was there and looked like he was doing other things so I assumed that I should just stand there and wait until he was ready...then he suddenly gave me the bill without saying anything and just looked at me. Just waited. So I paid. It was so weird. I felt like he didn't want me there. Other customers, including Portuguese customers, were also disappointed with this waiter. I'm not sure if he was having a bad day or he was always like this, but the effect was that I paid a chunk of money and I felt that they didn't want me there. We were very aware that we were tourists, trying our best to fit into the Portuguese culture and speak conversational Portuguese but this guy seemed to hate us. I was willing to spend money. I wasn't trying to be cheap. So what did I do wrong? Why did I deserve that treatment? I can't figure it out it.

However, the food was good quality. We ordered a plate of 14 grilled prawns, a larger single prawn, grilled golden bream, chicken steak, pork steak, salad, rice, 2 cokes, strawberry juice, large bottle of water, passion fruit sumol, creme caramel and 2 almond tarts. The roadside ambience was a bit rough with a building site across the road, the price of a family meal of 4 with no alcohol was €87 and the service was very slow and rude. Live in Quarteira, never been there before. Yesterday was the first time. Honest food. Nice people. Amazing quantity. Dish of the day 7€ plus drinks , etc. Paid 14 € , but had 2 drinks, and a dessert. Perfect for those who work, and dont want to spend much. I believe if i had no extra drink and dessert, was around 10/11€ .
