DaJesus Pizzeria Artigianale — Restaurant in Loulé

We didn’t know where to grab lunch and happened upon this pizzeria late in the afternoon. We had an amazing lunch! The chef is Italian and prides himself on the most quality ingredients fresh from Italy.

We had mozzarella salads and fresh-from-the-oven focaccia per the suggestion of the chef’s delightful wife, who was in charge of service. The mozzarella was the most delicious we’ve ever had, so fresh and flavorful. We ordered a variety of pizza pies that were so good that there were zero leftovers. Zero.

We obviously couldn’t leave without dessert, so a frozen limoncello was ordered that impressed my mother in law. It was served in a small Prosecco glass, while my son ordered a calzone dolce that was filled with Nutella and topped with chopped nuts and drizzled with more sauce. I am not a dessert eater, but my husband and I took half (it’s a serving meant to share) and I loved it.

In addition to the wonderful food, the owners are so warm and generous with their time. They answered so many of our questions about the neighborhood, the town, the beaches, and the activities.

My husband, son and I just tried this restaurant. The family who owns it really takes care of their customers. They are helpful and very friendly. We are from the New York/New Jersey area (i.e., we've eaten a LOT of pizza, including in Italy.) Jesus, the chef, makes some of the best pizza we have ever had. We were impressed and highly recommend it. It is true Roman style pizza made with quality ingredients and clearly prepared with a passion for the food. The crust was perfectly crisp with some char and a little bit of chew. The toppings were generous but not too much which can make a pizza soggy. We love Neapolitan style pizza and have had many great versions in Portugal. This is right up there with the best we have had. Crust was perfect and, even though ordering pesto was my wife’s thing - I’m more of a Diavola type person - it was absolutely delicious.

Hoping Italians don’t come looking for me but we were recently in Naples and the Amalfi Coast and the pizzas I’ve had in Portugal have been much better than any we had in Italy - for our tastebuds anyway.
