We arrived at 6.30pm for a 7pm booking. They had no problem sitting us as we were the only my two in the restaurant. We ordered water for the table. One glass of vinho and a sumol. Courvert, Camembert cheese, monchique grill, orange chicken and roasted potatoes. The couvert was delicious with hummus, beetroot hummus, delicious olives, bread and baculhao. The baculhao was not for us. This is where it got a little weird for me as I felt the dishes came out in the wrong order. First came the monchique grill which was pork with coriander and lots of garlic. This was delicious and perfectly cooked. This was quickly followed by the orange chicken which had been deboned and was seriously flavorsome. The roast potatoes were also very well cooked. The Camembert with honey, crisp bread and little bread sticks came to the table last. The cheese was over cooked in my opinion which meant it fell off the little bread sticks. I felt the cheese needed to be served with more substantial bread to absorb the cheese better. My son ordered the orange mouse for dessert which he enjoyed. I ordered a liquor beirao which never arrived and I was not charged for. We went to the counter to pay the bill...
Read moreI recently had the opportunity to dine at the restaurant, and unfortunately, I was somewhat disappointed with the experience. One of the aspects that stood out to me was the price-quality ratio. The prices charged by the restaurant were quite high considering the quality of the dishes offered.
Although the couvert was adequately served, with the highlight being the tasty olives, the variety of options on the menu was lacking. I was surprised to find that the wine selection was restricted only to wines from the Algarve region. While it is commendable to value local products, this limitation restricted my freedom of choice and diminished the overall experience.
In terms of flavor and presentation, the dishes failed to meet my expectations, especially considering the price I paid for them. I believe the restaurant could invest more in the quality of ingredients and the creativity of combinations to provide a more memorable gastronomic experience.
Overall, although I enjoyed the olives from the couvert, I believe the restaurant needs to reassess the price-quality ratio and diversify its wine offerings to attract a more...
Read moreThis is a 100% unique and unforgettable experience. I have had the pleasure of visiting 3 times so far and plan to continue that trend every time I am back in Portugal.
Firstly, the atmosphere is SO unique and charming. The walls once held the kings horses! You can even see an original fountain. It is just magnificent.
The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and so welcoming. It feels like seeing old friends each time we return and they have taken care to know some of our preferences for drinks and such!
Now… the food. WOW the food. The menu is changed daily depending on the availability of ingredients and what is in season. It has been a culinary delight, each dish is so fresh and full of flavor. I had the calf liver most recently and that may have been my favorite so far.
The hummus/bread/olives are a must as well. We get them every time.
I would give 10 stars if possible for the value, the price for these fresh, seasonal, exceptional dishes is nearly unbelievable. We truly feel like royalty when dining here.
Thank you Bica Velha, we miss...
