Restaurante Regata de Abril - SeaFood & Bakery, Padaria e Restaurante Petiscos — Restaurant in Loulé

We came here after seeing the review of 4.8. The restaurant decor was simple but nice and clean. The waiter was very friendly and recommended the grill octopus and the seafood rice, which we ordered. The grill octopus was simply yet perfectly grilled with garlic and olive oil, which brings out aroma of the garlic and the grill octopus, that was tender! As for the seafood rice, it was alright as a 3.5* dish. I tasted grits (sand?) from eating the clams. There were only 2 shrimps that are a bit bigger (with head and shells), and the other few were small, and not deveined! I was most disappointed seeing only 1 mussel that was put on top, and the imitation crab (didn’t expect to see it considering Portugal was known for real seafood and it was strongly recommended dish). The portion was also considered small especially with not much seafood for €17. We had the excellent seafood rice a few days ago in Lagos, that served in a pot, portion was almost double the size, nice and hot the whole meal, with many large shrimps, countless of clams and salmon chunks, with some small scallops and 1/2 of a real crab (for the 1 person portion size, as we wanted to tried other dishes)...

We loved this place so much that we visited twice in 4 days! ( For lunch and dinner). Food is amazing, fish is super fresh, meat dishes equally as great. Good kids portions, freshly squeezed juice wonderful. Definitely recommend the shrimp hot dog and monkfish/squid dishes and seafood platter (especially stuffed squid dish with rice). The service was wonderful and the guys went over and above for us and other customers. Its why we went back again and next time we visit will...

We had a great time at Regata de Abril the food, service and ambiance was great. It is not in the touristy places of Quarteira so you can see how the locals really live instead of going to the touristy places. Now let's talk about the the dishes...
