Last minute plans found us deciding to try and get into The Sandbanks Beach Restaurant down at Vale De Lobo. Thankfully given we were very early in the season they managed to squeeze us in without a prior booking being made. I suspect if we had tried to do this in a few weeks time as the season opened up, then we wouldn’t have stood a chance due to the very obvious popularity of this restaurant.
The Sandbanks is located in a prime location in Vale De Lobo and is right on the edge of the beach. Access is very easy from the nearby roadway in particular if getting dropped off by a taxi as drop off bays are right at the side of the road.
The Sandbanks is a very tastefully designed restaurant and decorated in very appropriate pastel colours very much suited to the environment and sunshine found here on The Algarve.
Most tables tend to have a view out over the sea and generally positioned to also take advantage of the setting sun which is always spectacular to see.
From first setting foot in the restaurant, the welcome and service from all members of the team was excellent. The Sandbank’s menus have a wide range of quality food and drinks available and are likely to have something to suit most pallets.
Service was prompt and very attentive and after thoroughly enjoying a starter and main course there was sadly no room left to sample the deserts. It does have to be noted how very good the food was.
This restaurant has a very nice, easy going but classy vibe and as the night drops a great ambiance sets in.
We was very fortunate to get a table without having pre booked and really enjoyed the evening and experience we had at The Sandbank.
Based on our experience I find it hard to believe anyone could go here and not have a good time.

Read moreWe decided to treat ourselves for breakfast and arrived at 11am. We then waited 10 mins for a table to be cleared for us. I asked if we still had time for breakfast and was told yes. We sat and were given menus. We were given a couple of minutes before being asked for our order. I said so hadn’t quite decided and the waitress became agitated saying the kitchen will be closing at 11.15am, I explained we had arrived in plenty of time but waited a while to be seated and she said they were very busy….there weren’t many tables taken, maybe 25% capacity! I quickly made my decision of Eggs Benedict. On arrival the egg whites were still raw inside and the Hollandaise sauce was tasteless. The photo says it all really! For €11.50 I expected a decent Eggs Benedict, this was seriously lacking. My husbands avocado on toast was nice but my sons’s full English had an under cooked fried egg and the beans were bland and tasteless. He did enjoy the sausage though. On the plus side you can’t beat this location it’s just a shame that the service and quality of food didn’t match. Won’t...
Read moreSadly I write this as been coming to Sandbanks over the years infact 26 years.
The quality of the food has massively changed and the lunch time menu its more like a cafe style and very limited.
My caesar wrap was basic to say the least, the dressing was mayonnaise not Caesar dressing no anchovies etc. the wrap was bland and loads of parmesan cheese in it so really sickly, fries were thin and warm photo enclosed this was 18 euros.
I literally could not eat it. Got ceasar salad instead and it was very disappointing. Thin strips of dry chicken and thin sliced salad with cherry tomatoes parmesan cheese on side and thick mayonnaise which was not Caesar dressing.
Again 18 euros and not worth it one bit.
Its completely dumbed down now and cheap produce.
On a positive note views outstanding as per normal and...
