Well Vale Do Lobo — Restaurant in Loulé

So the swimming pool area where the large round swimming pool is has music on all day from first thing when it opens and gets louder and louder from 2pm. They have surround sound there. Where it used to be very peaceful to relax and you were able to read your book in peace or listen to the sea from above or have nice conversations with the family, this has all changed since originally being former Breeze owned. I do not recommend in the slightest and unless they turn this music off which so far they refuse to. It is not family friendly! Think more Ibiza themed where they want you to buy cocktails from them and spend 1000 euros to use a jacuzzi for the day… yes or several hundred by the hour. You have club members who pay thousands a year who own villas here and you are completely disregarding many owners and instead focusing on Portuguese residents who will only come and go to this place. I’ll take this review off if they actually listen to this message but if not I’ll go a lot further. A lot of people who have used this pool for years DO NOT LIKE THIS RACKET! As we arrived at the restaurant an older lady barged me out of the way and got the hostesses attention. The hostess clearly saw we were there first but dealt with this rude woman. She did apologise and admitted she saw we had been standing there.

The decor is wonderful and the view of the beach is breathtaking on a day like yesterday. The food menu sounded exquisite and we ordered feeling very excited. There was live band playing, and the atmosphere was lively.

My friend ordered a cappriosca and asked for them to replace the rum with vodka. They said no! With no explanation which seemed very strange in a 5 star resort.

Once the food came, the initial order was incorrect for my friend she had to send it back and by the time what she actually ordered came I had finished my meal.

The quality of the sashimi was shameful. Never have I seen or payed for such low quality fish. Extremely fatty salmon, pale and tasteless tough tuna.

I ordered a kimchi bowl which looked like offcuts of salmon and tuna mixed into a very salty sauce for €20.

Can’t see Well being successful if they keep the new format. I have been coming to VDL my whole life, the pool has always been great but needed refreshing - it looks really great now. But, sadly with the re-brand to ‘Well’ the new concept is completely ridiculous… you get given a wristband on entry and told that if you want to leave the pool at any point, you have to pack up your stuff, give the towel back and then take a new towel upon return. It makes no sense? If I want to go for a walk on the beach, I don’t want to lug all my possessions with me! There is a very clear reason for why they are doing it, they want you to stay poolside all day and eat in the pool bar/restaurant. I kid you not, €25 for a burger, €26 for a salad, €6.5 for fries, €15 for a cocktail. Now I know VDL is expensive, but my god this is extortionate and people will simply not pay it. Really disappointed and hope that VDL recognises that this will drive people away before...
