Massa Mia — Restaurant in Machico

It is easy to miss this place located beneath the very visible Pescador Restuarante, but it is not some hole-in-the-wall and certainly not to be missed while in Machico! Once we discovered Massa Mia, we quite literally ended up eating lunch there everyday and got a take-away pizza once for an evening meal. (One pizza will satisfy the appetites of two in most cases.) The best beef estapadas (kabobs) we've ever had--and very consistent. It was hard to order anything else, but we forced ourselves! Everything we tried was great--the garlic bread too good! I suspect the deserts are good, but with such other delicious food we never indulged in anything more than an expresso after lunch. The servers are very professional and quite helpful with we pitiful Americans who know little more Portuguese than "Obrigado." First the waiter mixed up our drinks - no big deal. Then, after long waiting time, we got our pizzas and our food order also has been mixed up! When we informed the waiter about this fact, he just looked at us in disbelief and went away. He didn't say a word. They made us also pay for the more expensive pizzas than we actually ordered. Absolute scam, avoid at all costs. The Pizza "Italiana" is more like "Americana" - just look at the pics. Not real mozarella, and that amount of chesse you will never find on any real pizza in Italy. Unreal service...we waited 25 minutes for a waiter to just appear at our table while giving multiple signs to them and all the locals around being served in no time. After ordering two pizzas we waited another 35minutes for our pizzas to arrive, while other tables around us which arrived later and ordered way after us already got their food and finished before we even got to eat.
