Irish Pub — Restaurant in Nazaré

My wife and I ate at this disaster today, August 28th, 2023. We both ordered the Fish and Chips. These were the worst Fish and Chips we have ever had. First, the 2 pieces you get are small, and they are all cookie cutter, same shaped. You can totally see that they are frozen battered fish you can buy in a box at the supermarket. I asked the waitress if they were pre frozen, and she said they were. Also, the French fries were not fresh cut, but your commercial frozen fries. I then went to the bartender to pay, and asked the same thing. Her response was that the cooks bread the fish, deep fry it, then freeze it. I told her that was not true. Because every piece was the same size, and perfectly shaped. And the batter was totally not home made. As a guy from Boston, Massachusetts, USA, with a population of Irish even larger than in Ireland, I know my Irish pubs, and English foods. This is not an Irish Pub. Come on, Bitoque on an Irish Menu? To put the nail in the coffin, the waittress tells me that they do not take debit or credit cards; only cash. What???? In a touristy place, where almost all restaurants take Multibanco, this place does not??? And I asked, where was the signage that states "No Multibanco Payment Accepted"? She takes me to the front door, and points to a little "M" symbol, with a red "X" going through it. And points to one in the back of the restaurant, near the Bar. I told her, that when a customer enters a restaurant, relaxed, ready to enjoy a relaxed meal, the customer's alert antennas aren't out scoping the restaurant looking at and reading signs. There should be something right at the table, or the waitress should mention it before taking the order. So now im walking all over the place on the street looking for an ATM. Needless to say, I didn't eat more than one bite of the fish. It was terrible. So I just paid 10 euros for a meal I didn't even eat. Not as far as the service, it too sucked. Like I've encountered here, no one ever admits to anything, and the most you'll ever get is "Desculpe", sorry. No "Sorry you didn't like it. Could I get you something else." The waitress mentioned my experience to the female bartender, who appeared to be in charge, it not the owner. She came to the table, and commented, "Other people like our Fish and Chips." That was it. For 10 euros, I was hoping that I wouldn't get what I wouldn't even eat at home: Frozen fish sticks out of a box in the frozen food section of a supermarket. And terrible customer service, and ridiculous cash only...

I have never left a bad review for a restaurant but our experience here prompted me to warn others before you make the mistake of sitting down. The view is lovely but that’s where the fun ends. My partner ordered a hamburger & I ordered a chicken dish. It turned out to be two tasteless deep fried chicken “cutlets” served on an inedible dry bun (no butter, mayonnaise or sauce) with a few pieces of wilted lettuce and accompanied by potato chips, which turned out to be the best part of the meal. My partner’s burger (also from a frozen package) was only marginally better and served with fries. We had to ask for ketchup and cutlery. The waiter then disappeared to visit with his wife and child, the other wait staff and neighbours. He never returned to ask about our meals or to see if we needed another beverage. My partner finally got up to ask for our bill and we then found out it was cash only. Not a big concern since we did have cash but there was no signage to indicate that and the waiter did not mention it beforehand. I can’t imagine anyone has ever returned...

Tomash was wonderful. Such a great bartender . He was personable, conversivewith us even though we were not at fluent in Portuguese, he happily served us many times during our visit to Nazare. His colleagues Enas, Rue, Naer (cook) were also just fabulous!! We love this Irish pub... Great berr and wings too!! Also, is you are an American, you need to Instagrams that anything you want will be a charge... It's the way it is here. Learn the culture so you have reasonable expectations.
