À Fateixa — Restaurant in Odemira

We were recommend this restaurant for dinner as it is next to the river and away from the masses in the village. We were not disappointed. We arrived at 6.30pm, when they were still on the afternoon menu, without a reservation. They found us a table and allowed us to order some tapas and drinks until the dinner service started at 7pm. The masses arrived after 7pm, so we were glad to get there early since some people were turned away. We had the octopus and the squid with onions. Both were excellently cooked and tasted great. We had dinner here after our first choice restaurant was unexpectedly closed on the night. It was a pretty good alternative! I had the beef steak and shrimps, and my wife had the bitoque. My steak was by far the most tender steak I have ever eaten. If I had to be really picky I would have liked it to be just a little seared on the outside. The bitoque was adequate, but we are spoiled where we live in the Alentejo with the very finest of restaurants serving great bitoque locally. The serving staff were really excellent, friendly and attentive. You could actually see them checking over the restaurant to see if anyone needed service. Very lovely spot with water views and a large menu of mostly seafood. There were also omelets and a specific vegetarian item offered. Prices were fine. Really paying for the ambiance, which is generally spectacular. Though outdoor seating is next to a car park, it wasn’t disruptive and the views of the water were beautiful so position your chairs that way. Service was very friendly, and the food was tasty. We parked at the top in the town and walked down. Not bad but it does involve a fairly steep climb back up. Next time we would probably figure out how to just get to the available car park.
