We decided to have an early dinner at Alvor. The tarvena seemed to be run by a family and was established in 1890. It had a fresh fish counter where you could choose your fish and an open charcoal grill. The location looked amazing right on the water's edge , steps away from the fishermen landing jetty. We were the first one and were shown to our tables. The decor was dated but it added to the charm. The first thing I spotted was a napkin with some food remains which was laying about 2m on the floor next to my table. I was not impressed- I was later told that it was for the cat and the napkin and the offending remains were removed. The menus were rather unclean, the crockery was chipped and my 4 year old son's glass was chipped. Right off the bat, the waiter tried to hit us with the covert bread, olives and tuna paste which we did not order. There was only burger or fish finger and chips as a kids option and no drinks menu. I ordered a fish soup, and a grilled sea bream-my wife ordered a slice of bream and grilled prawns and fish fingers. The grilled fish came with boiled potatoes and a simple tomato salad. As the food arrived, a horde of flies appeared which made the experience rather unpleasant as I had to eat holding my fork in one hand and an improvised fan with the other to shoo away the flies. The food was just okay and very very salty! When the waiter asked if everything was ok, I smirked and said the food was salty. He just shrugged and walked away. Overall, fair to say that it was a pretty disappointing experience. The food was not overly priced but the quality was wasted by the overzealous addition of salt. We could not wait to leave the establishment and wished we chose somewhere else. Shame! One star for location...
Read moreThe worst food and bad serviced we have here in alvor. The moment we sat down to our table they put some bread, butter, olives and a tuna salad without asking if we wanted to have it (we did get charged for it €5.50 was added to our bill later on) be careful and the fish we have is snapper (€20 one medium size) it was grill and it was the most disappointing meal because it was so salty that my husband and I couldn't eat by itself.I have to squeeze the whole lemon to balance the taste. We sat down inside the restaurant and we was drenched because the water rain went thru the roof and our food was swimming with rain water. They moved us in different table which is good but the waiter didn't apologised at all.He was so miserable and highly not recommended this restaurant at all..O Navigator is around the corner is second to none the food and the service is excellent and a...
Read moreSo as most of you will see from the reviews the food quality ranges from good to excellent (but many of the surrounding restaurants serve equally good food). I have come to this restaurant for over 20 years. It is with great disappointment I have to give it a 1 as I cannot accept to have a waiter: rolling their eyes at every single request, shouting at customers, not being able to take simple requests and finally loudly and openly provoking customers into what it seemed to be some sort of attempt to escalate the situation (perhaps inviting physical comfrontation). Summary: avoid...
