Very average, esp for the price. The service was slow and seemed a bit disorganized. Food quality quite disappointing. For example calamari appetizer for ten Euros - such tiny lulas rings that the ratio of tempura was about 2:1 to actual calamari. It was like eating just fried crunchy tempura breading. The tataki tuna salad equally poor; while the tuna was seared well and of good quality, it was covered with a very salty soy-based glaze which detracted from the fish. It was on a bed of boring greens, and some not very juicy or fresh orange pieces, two berries halved. (18€) It was screaming for fresh ginger and avocado and some additional crunch. A citrusy dressing to bring out the sweetness of the fish. I would not know how to describe this restaurant. Not really Mexican (very few original Mexican offerings); not Japanese. Not fusion. The Mexican dilemma is a problem most of these restaurants in PT have. I was never offered a wine list, had to ask for it twice. Didn’t know they offered margaritas until it was too late. I know they have been open for awhile so not sure that’s an excuse. No idea why high rating. The view was pretty though. Oh and the tortilla strips with accompanying sauces - just no. Not even in the same family of tortillas. The flavorless sauces...
Read moreThe food, all homemade including the tortillas, is excellent. The owners and key staff are Portuguese with the chef from São Paulo. The menu is innovative, with a strong relationship to Mexican street food. The tacos al pasture were amazing as were the quesadillas carnitas. For appetizers we had the bacon wrapped jalapenos, which were fresh, and the empanitas carnitas.
We loved the margaritas, especially the ones on the rocks. O Rui is a great bartender.
They have a different take on churros, which were doughy balls rather than the long pastry. We suggest skipping that dessert. Also we ordered pingos, the traditional expresso with a little milk. They do not have milk for coffee. I think a crime in Portugal.
Great service. Friendly owners who seem to...
Read moreDelicious food! We ordered mostly snacky food since we had already eaten and it didn’t disappoint. The tortilla chips are fried to perfection and served with some guac with chorizo, and a creamed corn dip. Really tasty way to start the meal.
The calamari is home made and crispy but slightly over salted for my taste. It’s served with a roasted garlic aioli. Still very delicious. My favourite however were the shrimp empanadas, lots of shrimp filling, sweet and savoury. I would definitely get these again if I came back. Maybe even 2 portions :)
The margarita cheesecake was pleasant but we felt it could be improved - maybe introduce some chilli or salt flakes to give it more oomph just like how a margarita is. Otherwise it’s just a simple...
