Loko — Restaurant in Porto

Dear management,

I am writing to express my disappointment with the service I received at “Loko,” the restaurant located by the beach in Foz do Douro.

Unfortunately, the experience was far below what one would expect from a place in such a prime location, often visited by tourists. The staff showed little motivation or willingness to assist us or even help us find a place to sit.

What was most upsetting was the behavior of one of the waitresses, a young Black woman with braids who referred to my husband in a flirty way as “amor” (which means “love” in Portuguese). Regardless of whether she is Brazilian or African, which I assume she might be, and still I do not care, there is no level of familiarity that justifies this kind of unprofessional and inappropriate language.

For a beachfront restaurant with so much potential, I expected a much higher level of professionalism and courtesy from the staff.

I hope you take this feedback seriously and use it to improve the quality of service for future guests. Unfortunately the first and last time we visited this place.

We found this restaurant as we walked south from the cheese castle along the promenade. We chose the executive menu which was great value at 20 euros each. We found out it included our drinks (soft drink and wine) when we got the bill. We had the vegetable soup and the chicken joghurt salad for our starters. Then we both had the prawns with lemon risotto, my friend found it too lemon for her, but I enjoyed mine. I had the delicious chocolate tart for dessert. The staff were friendly but seemed a bit disorganised. My friend didn't have dessert but several waiters asked us whether we had dessert or not. Overall still a good experience. Imagina seu Gaspacho vir com um pedaço de vidro que você tira porque sente a ponta afiada dentro da boca, você devolver, menos de 5 minutos depois eles chegarem com outro esperando que você coma, dizendo que “fizeram um novo”, sem ao menos perguntar se você gostaria de comer “um novo”, que obviamente não foi refeito, apenas retirado da mesma panela. E aí, você se negar a comer o “novo gaspacho” e ele vir cobrado na conta assim mesmo. Nem comentamos nada, de tão irritados que estávamos ao fim, simplesmente pagamos e fomos embora.

Detalhe, eu estava com duas crianças pequenas, por sorte comi o gaspacho sozinha e não as dei para experimentar.

Se fosse só isso estava tudo bem, indigesto, mas ok, bastava não voltar no lugar. Chegamos às 12:30 com duas crianças e só conseguimos sair às 15:00 devido a demora no atendimento para um almoço simples: entradinhas, prato principal e uma sobremesa. Em dado momento sentou ao nosso lado uma mesa gigante a pedir mariscos, que nem estavam na carta, os funcionários passavam 30 vezes pela nossa mesa em direção à nova mesa, mas não traziam nossos pratos nem perguntavam se precisávamos de algo.

Até o café no final, também demoraram a trazer, tentamos lembra-los, mas continuaram demorando a passar pra lá e pra cá, até enfim finalmente trazerem quando decidimos pedir a conta. Quando estávamos pagando chegou um novo café, o atendente confuso porque sequer se deu conta que tinham já enviado um café.

Acabou com a nossa tarde de sol com as crianças, não conseguimos aproveitar mais nada pois ao fim já estavam exaustas e com sono de tanta espera e tivemos que voltar para casa ao invés de passear pela orla.
