Dinner missed at “Os Amigos de Monsaraz”The dining room is charming but has no air conditioning, and it was hard to breathe. We tried to order, but half of the menu was unavailable; in the end, we ordered lamb chops with migas, rice and French fries, and cod (bacalhau). The waiter told me the cod would take 20 minutes. I said I would wait. My boyfriend’s meat arrived (good, but just one tiny chop and mostly bone) with frozen fries and precooked rice, and no migas—which they didn’t have. Price: €19. After more than an hour, the waiter came to ask if we wanted anything else, and I told him I was still waiting for my cod—only to find out the order had never been placed. We paid for the dish my boyfriend had, a glass of wine, one small beer, water, and bread (€35), and left, with me still without dinner. Best place ever. Gabriel and Marta were both amazing waiters and had extreme knowledge on their meals, Marta taught me about the tradional brazilian dish farofa and they were both very excited about their culture and food. I ordered the steak which was at a low price range for the average steak at €22 and was the best I have ever tasted. The desert was also just as good with the best icecream I have tasted and brownie with excellent texture. The picanha that costs 23 euros was inedible. Half of it was fat. When we asked to send us just an extra slice of meat they wanted to charge us a full portion. The other half was overcooked and rubbery and we couldn't chew. Sent it all back. No apology or offer to replace it - just pay or eat rubber, those were the options. Wine came after the main course was already served, everything felt rushed. It's a shame - it's our 3rd time here, last 2 were great, we even visited when they opened on the same week and left a good review. Sadly never coming back. Hope losing 4 customers was worth it...
