We knew that all restaurants are a trap for tourists so we followed the review and tried this one. While the service staff were nice and attentive, the food was a disappointment. We tried the Bacalhau abras, which was tasteless and without bacalhau. Since it’s a mix dish, ut is easy to put less fish as we can’t see much but there was none, not a taste of fish, only potatoes. And we tried hard to find pieces of fish. It was more a potato gratin and nothing of bacalhau! Therefore we didn’t want to try the desert. Such a shame all those places around don’t worth it, ok it’s touristic but why taking advantage of it and not even be able to prepare the simpliest portuguese dish of bacalhau. Bacalhau Abras is really...

My husband and I had such a nice lunch here today! What really made it was the kind service from the gentleman who served us, but the food was excellent, too! We shared their delicious bread, olives, and some amazingly good sheep's cheese. Then my husband had gazpacho soup, while I had a tomato, olive and feta salad. It was a light and refreshing lunch, which was very welcome in the heat. My red wine was very good, and my husband enjoyed his beer, as well. And to top it off we were able to eat in an air-conditioned space with an amazing view! You should...

We visit Castelo de Monsaraz often when in country. The history, views and streets are worth the visit but you can’t leave the castle without dinner at Xarez. Try timing your reservations for sunset. The food has never failed. The menu is limited but that allows everything from the octopus to the stone steak to be perfect. The breeze starts as the sun sets. What a great experience. Never disappointed.

After visiting the castle we stopped at restaurant Xarez for a light meal and luckily they had table for us. We sat outside with an amazing view in a sunny winter day. The staff were very friendly and the food great. We had the tomato soup and our son a portuguese bread toast….sorry no time for pictures 😅😋 The restaurant isn’t big therefore I would recommend booking in advance if going for dinner.

Yes the views are spectacular but that’s not the only attraction of this amazingly located restaurante. Really friendly and welcoming manager and staff who gave us great advice on food and wine. And yes, the food was very tasty; we had goats cheese, tomato soup, black pork and bochechas. The Monte da Bonança wine was fantastic too.
