Be aware - this must be a scam. There’s zero connection between the burnt overpriced fish we got, and the reviews here.
Our experience was bad. Really bad. The main dish — grilled amberjack — was unfortunately cooked way too long (see photo) which left it dry.
The starters were mixed: the fish soup was not quite as flavorful as versions we tried elsewhere, while the fish cakes were “ok”.
The biggest problem, however, was the service. It was shockingly poor. Diogo, who appeared to be the manager on duty, set the tone — dismissive, inattentive, and unprofessional. For a restaurant charging these kinds of prices, that level of service is simply unacceptable. Given the bad service, we spoke with the owner - Nuno - who was even worse. Seriously - something bad is happening here.
This is an expensive place. You expect much more then. Especially with such wonderful ingredients at their disposal, there’s definitely potential here. We just felt the execution could have been better on this visit....
Read moreThis was recommended by our hotel which I don’t always trust, but this was a good call. On a jetty of sorts so the view is of the city and marina. Cute place. We made reservations but most walk ups were able to get a table. We had the nicest server who explained the fish options with flavor, texture, etc. They also have a book of the fish available and how they are caught and if sustainable. Bravo! They have a good sized wine list with nice price options. We started with the sourdough bread and butter and the octopus salad special along with our water and wine. The butter is so so good!! The octopus salad was quite tasty. Good amount of minced onions and peppers, olive oil, and cilantro. Very fresh and flavorful.
Husband loved his tuna. Cooked as requested and so good he didn’t use any of the sauce. I went with the sweet potato with arugula and goat cheese and the grilled vegetables. Both nice portions. Loved the char on the veggies.
Overall a tasty dinner with nice view and...
Read moreFood: 5/5 We ordered lapas and tuna tartare to start. Both were fresh and prepared at a really high level. The lapas, in particular, were made with a great combination of spices. For the main dish, we ordered one of the fish of the day (blacktail comber) and grilled octopus. The fish was great; however, the octopus was a little small in portion but it was a starter after all and with the combination of the side dish with sweet potato was enough at the end. For dessert, we had passion fruit sorbet with a white tea brûlée. It was one of the best desserts I have eaten in the Azores!
Service: 5/5 A very kind and helpful lady explained all about the fish of the day. She also checked during dinner if everything was okay. We really felt something special that evening.
General experience: 5/5 That dinner was definitely one of the best meals in all of the Azores. Perfect food, fair prices, and professional, kind waiters made the...
