I used to love this place until today. I’ve been living in Madeira for almost a year now, and I often visit the Sunday farmers’ market. Stopping by here for a coffee, a snack, or a glass of poncha had become a tradition, I’ve been here at least ten times, if not more. Today, I brought some friends along, and we planned to grab a bite and have some coffee. We also had a 6-year-old girl with us, who urgently needed to use the restroom. Naturally, we didn’t place our order right away. Instead, I showed her mother where the restroom was in the café. Suddenly, the owner rushed out and, in a rather rude manner, asked if we were heading to the toilet. When I confirmed, he pointed us to the exit, saying there were public restrooms outside. He didn’t even ask whether we planned to sit down and be customers. And again - it wasn't my first time here, I may assume that when you work in the hospitality sphere it is quite normal at least to try to remember people... Anyway. Draw your own conclusions, but this was the first time I encountered rudeness on this wonderful island. Everyone else here has always been kind and welcoming.
