We visited Ponto Alto Café with our marimba group from South Africa and were blown away by the amazing service and warm welcome. The staff went out of their way to make us feel special – so friendly and kind! The food and desserts were absolutely delicious. A truly memorable experience. Highly recommended!

Close to the Santa de Serra farmers market. Great place for a no frills casual meal. Food was great but the service was even better. The owner gentleman serving us was super friendly and knowledgeable about the island. The food has African influence, super yum. Prices were good too.

Fantastic place! Steak was delicious and worth every euro! Poncho? It tasted like dreams become vivid. I am going to visit this place again. And if You want to dine and experience the food and people, this is the place. Chapeu bas to service!

I used to love this place until today. I’ve been living in Madeira for almost a year now, and I often visit the Sunday farmers’ market. Stopping by here for a coffee, a snack, or a glass of poncha had become a tradition, I’ve been here at least ten times, if not more. Today, I brought some friends along, and we planned to grab a bite and have some coffee. We also had a 6-year-old girl with us, who urgently needed to use the restroom. Naturally, we didn’t place our order right away. Instead, I showed her mother where the restroom was in the café. Suddenly, the owner rushed out and, in a rather rude manner, asked if we were heading to the toilet. When I confirmed, he pointed us to the exit, saying there were public restrooms outside. He didn’t even ask whether we planned to sit down and be customers. And again - it wasn't my first time here, I may assume that when you work in the hospitality sphere it is quite normal at least to try to remember people... Anyway. Draw your own conclusions, but this was the first time I encountered rudeness on this wonderful island. Everyone else here has always been kind and welcoming. I hope he was just having a bad day and that this isn’t a common practice, but I won’t...

Great place for lunch or a weekend buffet. At all you can eat and 8.50E it can't be beat. Normally a choice of local Madeiran foods - with salad and various side dishes. Simple, good and filling. Like from the old country. We go back regularly both for the buffet or just to have breakfast - toast, ham and cheese with egg - fresh orange juice and a coffee - . Super pleasant folks here with some speaking very good english. But honestly we need to start working on our portuguese. We're regulars now so a bit biased - since moving to...
