Lota — Restaurant in Sesimbra

We were looking for a good fish restaurant for dinner on a cold evening in January, when many restaurants were closed during the low season. For lack of choice, we picked this restaurant without checking its reputation. We knew we were taking a risk, but our experience was still worse than we had anticipated. To be fair, the fish (goldenbream) we ordered tasted fresh, and the accompanying vegetables and salad were healthy food. Nonetheless the fish by-kilo-price was obviously overpriced, especially considering the price level in Portugal. And the owner of the restaurant did not quote the price nor the weight of the fish. We were charged 80 euros for a fish of supposedly 1.35 kg. It turned out to be the most expensive dinner we had in Portugal in the past five years, and worse still we, like many other reviewers, felt scammed. We will not return, and not recommend it. We regret that we did not check the reviews posted by other people before entering this restaurant. Watch out for...

So... Great fish definitely. But I felt that the owner duped me. We asked for fish for 2... Generally around 25 to 30 euro in Sesimbra. We mentioned we had sea bass and durado the last few nights and the owner mentioned we should try the Red Snapper. So yes I said we would and yes I did not check the price per Kilo. But he also did not mention it was the most expensive fish on his menu. So we had a great meal... And then the bill arrived... The fish alone was 95 euro... It was as per the menu... 65 per Kilo. So yes .. I should be more aware of the prices... But the owner has obligation to say....by he way.. this will be "x".. I have never seen this in my 10 years...

DO NOT EAT HERE; terrible service, extremely slow service. The fish we wanted to order was not available (most of the menu wasn't available). We ordered starters that took an hour to arrive. I sent one starter back (chewy octopus salad) as it was so bad and they refused to refund me. I speak Portuguese and when I explained myself the owner suddenly 'didn't understand me' but suddenly did during parts of the conversation where he did insist I pay. Appalling food. Arrogant attitude. A total rip off. We saw other food being sent back and the chef being...
