Unfortunately, the food didn't match the expectation from the reviews. We ordered the beef chops, well done, and the beef was a bit overcooked. The portion was supposed for 2 people, and while I'd say the beef amount was ok, the veggies and the chips were not enough, there was less than half a carrot for both of us. My kid ordered the beef with rice, egg and chips. The rice wasn't tasted, it needs some herbs or garlic. But the worse of all was the price, we paid €113 euros for the meal including a sangria, a soda and sparkling water. This was way too expensive for Portugal and for the quality of the food. I really expect more for this price in Portugal as there are excellent restaurants at lower price in the country. Regarding the service, while the employees are friendly and very nice, they need some training about how to serve the customers. I was talking to my husband, very close to his ear when suddenly the waiter popped between us to serve the drink, I just felt a push, so weird. About the atmosphere, it has a very nice view, and we sat in the entrance area, non-smoking area I think, but there are lots of locals that enter the restaurant to sell their products, this is quite annoying and completely changes the vibe. I wouldn't go...
Read moreWhen I first arrived in Sesimbra, I visited this restaurant based on a recommendation from my hotel's front desk clerk. I ordered the lobster and shrimp risotto with a glass of white Sangria. The food was just okay—the risotto was salty, but the seafood was very fresh. However, the service was lacking.
I returned for dinner tonight, and the service was terrible. I was seated and waited for a menu. After noticing that everyone seated after me received menus, I flagged down a server for one. Again, others placed their orders before me. I ordered the octopus lagareiro, a salad, and a drink. No one offered me bread or olives, and no one checked on me. I wonder if this was because I was dining alone compared to the other tables of two or more. My octopus dish arrived, but they forgot my salad. When I asked for salad dressing, they brought olive oil and red vinegar. The food was not good at all today, and the service was terrible. I had to ask three different servers for my bill before it was finally brought to me. The inconsistency in food and service is disappointing, and I don't recommend this place for the price. Instead, I suggest the restaurant next door, Pedra Alta, which serves fresh, delicious food for less money and with...
Read moreO Velho e o Mar is a seafood lover’s paradise, perfectly perched right on the beach with a vibrant, welcoming vibe. The restaurant’s standout feature is its commitment to freshness—I was even invited to choose my fish right outside, a unique touch that set the tone for an exceptional meal. We indulged in mussels, grilled salmon, and a fish and rice dish, and every bite was absolutely divine. Each dish was bursting with flavor, impeccably prepared, and showcased the quality of the ingredients. The location is a major plus, with the beach just steps away and convenient parking nearby. If street parking is full, the multi-level parking building a short drive ahead is a great option. The staff were a highlight—super polite, fluent in English, and attentive, making the experience even more enjoyable. They accept card payments, which added to the convenience. We were lucky to be seated immediately, though I’ve heard the place can get packed during peak times, so plan accordingly. The menu is diverse, offering a variety of drinks, starters, and even vegetarian options, ensuring there’s something for everyone. For anyone craving a top-notch seafood meal in a stunning beachside setting, O Velho e o Mar is well worth the visit. Highly...
