Taberna do Poita — Restaurant in Viana do Castelo

This place exceeds all expectations you can have. You can easily pass and not notice it as a place to eat (we did for years 😅) but when you step in you will be greeted by a friendly waiter and a table full with delicious starters you can take or pass on. For main dishes you can choose between fish and meat. Portions are huge so sharing is a good option. We chose the steak which was the best meat I ever ate. You will never guess from outside, how good the food and how friendly the service here in Taberna do Poita is. There was T-bone and filet that day on the menu. For the finger food we got goose barnacles and the explanation how to eat them. They were really nice! We went for the filet (usually we go for seafood od vege meals) and the meat was tremendous! Una decepción total: precio de restaurante, calidad de tasca barata

Fuimos a esta taberna portuguesa atraídos por el ambiente local y los precios económicos que comentaban algunos marineros en la terraza (unos 9 € el menú diario). Ellos mismos nos comentaron que los domingos los precios suben un poco, rondando los 12–14 €, pero lo que vivimos fue una auténtica tomadura de pelo.

Nos sirvieron un plato muy básico de bacalao delgado, recalentado y acompañado con exceso de patata, sin sabor ni preparación que justificara su precio. Además, trajeron unos petiscos de baja calidad, entre ellos una simple porción de mantequilla, como si fuera un entrante especial. Resultado: 63,70 € por una comida mediocre, mal presentada y sin ningún detalle que justificara el coste.

El local es una taberna sencilla, sin lujos, frecuentada sobre todo por clientes portugueses. Sin embargo, la diferencia de trato fue evidente: nos sentimos tratados con desprecio por no ser del país, como si los visitantes extranjeros no fueran bienvenidos. La actitud general fue fría, poco profesional y claramente abusiva.

En resumen, pagamos precio de restaurante de calidad por la experiencia de una tasca barata y mal atendida. No volveremos, y lo comparto para que otros viajeros no se vean en la misma situación.
