We stumbled upon this little absolute gem of a restaurant when visiting Vila do Conde for the first time last week---a lovely building with a feeling of seclusion as it is tucked away down a side street with a little courtyard area where they set us up to dine outside for lunch (they have indoor dining but set up tables outside as needed). The chef/owner and wife were so attentive, engaging, interesting and fun. The young server was also a delight and on point with all the dishes he recommended for us. As the chef explained, the menu changes weekly so there is no 'written' menu--the server will inform diners of the choices for starters, entrées, desert and drinks. The chef told us the dishes would not be 'typical' Portuguese dishes--however, they certainly all were typical Portuguese in that they were made from the freshest seafood and delicious Black Iberian pork, and vegetables in season. The Cucumber Sangria was possibly the best sangria I have ever had. The only day the restaurant is open for lunch is on Saturday (lucky for us!!!) and is closed on Sunday and Monday. If in Vila do Conde be sure to treat yourself with a dinner at Bastardos Restaurante--it will not disappoint. One of our fav meals/experiences to date...
Read moreI cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Warm welcome, friendly service. Business ran with passion and heaps of creativity. I was told the food menu was changed weekly and had to listen to the waiter recite everything that was available. I would have ordered every single item if I had the space. Started off with a nice cold and strong cherry beer. That warmed up the chilly February evening. For starters went with oysters and the prawn bar buns. Absolutely divine. The choice of main courses all made me salivate but decided to go with duck breast, with cranberry sauce, asparagus and mash potato with added spicy curry. The combination was unexpected but the collage of flavours was something remarkably good. All of that complimented with a glass of nice red wine from the servers recommendation. Finished off with cheesecake and a scoop of red fruit ice cream. Portions are good , you won’t get stuffed which is perfect because you want to try everything they have to offer. Without much beating around the bush this was probably the best meal I’ve had in Portugal and I’ve been coming here since 2012.
Hands down you have to try...
Read moreI wanted to write this review just over a year ago when I was in Portugal but had forgotten the name of the restaurant. As soon as I remembered the name I had to write a review. This is a restaurant with a relaxing atmosphere and beautiful decor. The decor has a modern farmhouse feel to it. The food is fusion and was absolutely delicious. We went to the restaurant without a reservation and they immediately accomodated us. The food was very fresh, it was divine. The staff was very friendly and inviting. We felt very welcomed. I would definitely go back when I visit Portugal again and would recommend it to anyone. I'm from Canada and if any of you Canadian tourists come to Vila Do Conde I recommend you visit. They also speak English as my teenager son doesn't speak Portuguese and they were able to translate the menu in detail. Also the wine is very good. It's overall a...
