1828 Steakhouse — Restaurant in Vila Nova de Gaia

A very bad experience. Yesterday ( 21/2) I had a very average dinner, at this restaurant, and service not matching the level they propose. All faraway from my expectations. When I left around 9:45pm, I left behind my glasses. On the way home I tried to call to check if they found. There’s no phone number of the restaurant, and any other bar or restaurant of WOW, only a central call center to WOW, that by the way, closes at night, something Ryanair style. Morning, 10am I called again, explaining the situation asking them to connect me to the restaurant. It’s not the company procedure!!! They take note of your claim and contact themselves. All day and no any response. Around 7 pm I called again. They said, restaurant didn’t answer their request, we will reinforce the message… I reacted with indignation to such an irresponsible attitude Cannot after 20 hours not to answer this simple question. I understood to get this answer, I should drive there and speak directly to the restaurant. 2/3 minutes later restaurant called me, to say my glasses not found, and no any message from call center until 7pm. I could even doubt, if they tried or not to find the glasses, taking in consideration, the way service provided.

What I can say, this restaurant, even when all it goes well, price, quantity, quality and service don’t match. It’s not at all, what they promise.

Regarding this unusual rules of communication, I suggest WOW to listen my calls, as they said are taped, and think seriously on how to improve it. Otherwise with no self criticism, and continuous good changes, WOW restaurants must keep on surviving on TheFork platform 50%...

Our dinner here was amazing! Everything was really good and with a high level quality. There’s so much so to say. Starting by the staff, when you reach the restaurant Leonardo will introduce you the space (with a charming decoration and view to the Douro river) , explaining about Porto city history and what’s behind the concept. Then you have Cristiana who will show you the menu, giving her recommendations according with your tastes. And finally tou have Leonardo again helping you to choose the wine according with the food. They really know what they are doing. Then, when the food comes to the table, and you have your first bite, god!! It was like if you were in heaven! As starters we had focaccia, tartar, croquettes and carpaccio. And as main dish we choose t bone and another type that I can’t recall the name. The meat flavour and texture was perfect. Really really good. Previously, on other reviews I gave 10 to other restaurants, but after this experience I would give more than 10 to this one, or I needed to change the previous ones. This was another level. Of course the price is also different, but is fair for all the quality you have, not only the food but also the service. I couldn’t recommend more this place. We had made reservations to celebrate a special birthday weeks in advance for a party of six and were looking forward to it but they canceled the reservation saying that they got a reservation for a bigger group and now it’s a private event. I asked if there’s another similar dining option, they said they can book at Barão Fladgate. Then days later I got a message from them saying that they have canceled our reservation for the same reason - we have a bigger group who wants the space. No apologies or providing any options. With two bad experiences, I will never go to the restaurants at WOW and since we are part of the committee to coordinate diplomat luncheons and dinners in Porto, WOW and its restaurants will never be an option.
