This was our first visit (late July/early August) to Portugal and we enjoyed, immensely, our stay in Estrela de Gaia. Our two apartments were of generous size, spotless, quiet and with the terrace apartment, a great view. The lift was pure convenience for the baby stroller and moving luggage around. The landlord was very welcoming, attentive, informative and he made us feel right at home immediately - an important bonus.||Could not have wished for a more perfect location on a narrow side street, with its own adjacent cafes and restaurants that gave the street its authentic and intimate village feel. There is a laundromat close by, though for longer stays a washing machine would have been an asset to a family. The main riverside was a comfortable walk to all the restaurants, market stalls and port caves (and don’t miss WoW), including the needs of children; a playground, cable car, and the boats. ||Similarly, bigger Porto was a convenient, easy, entertaining walk across the wonderful bridge, offering another dimension of facilities; food, modern shopping, museums, historical landmarks and extensive transportation. ||We would recommend Estelle de Gaia without question and not hesitate to return - no hesitation at all....
Read moreEstrela de Gaia is a beautiful place to stay and hits all the marks: Location, Quality, Price and Service! I stayed in the Douro apartment and it was bigger and more beautiful than the pictures. The view from the terrace is one of the best in Gaia. The beds were very comfortable with luxurious linens, the bathroom was big with gorgeous tile and a skylight. The kitchen was full-size and has all the items you need to cook and entertain. As for the location, I recommend staying in Gaia over Porto all day, every day. Estrela de Gaia is just steps away from the best Port in the world along with amazing restaurants and cafes. Porto is a quick 10 minute walk over the lower bridge and staying in Gaia allows you to admire the city from across the river. The most amazing part of staying at Estrela de Gaia are the owners Jorge and Patricia. They are very warm, welcoming and went out of their way to help me during my stay. They have become my adopted Portuguese family. I cannot wait to come back...
Read moreIf you are visiting Porto, check out Estrela de Gaia! We stayed here for a week and found the location to be perfect for us. The neighborhood is really cute and convenient with tons of cafes and restaurants to chose from. To access the heart of Porto, it’s a pleasant 8 minute walk right over the bridge, but there is a lot to see on the Gaia side as well. The apartments are located on a nice street and the apartments/building were beautifully restored! Jorge was a wonderful host, gave us tons of info and tips, went above and beyond to make sure our stay was perfect and of course, greeted us with fresh pastel de natas. The apartments were even more breathtaking in real life than in pictures, every detail was perfect, the views were really nice, and if we could live there forever we would! I’d recommend Estrela de Gaia to everyone. If you’re thinking about it, you’ll be happy with...
