We loved the New Cactus restaurant and had diner there each of the three nights that we spent in Kigali.
The menu has a bewildering number choices including wines. We tried various dishes over the multiple visits, and everything we ate was delicious.
Prices are mid-end (if you consider the places around the Marriott high-end). Main courses run around 7,000 to 10,000 RWF.
The restaurant is set in a beautiful garden on a hill with nice views of the city lights in the valley below. You can sit outside or semi-outside in a covered area that is open on the sides.
There is a nice mix of local clientele and tourists.
The service is very friendly and prompt (not to be underestimated in Rwanda where you can routinely wait for 2 hours before your dinner appears).
The restaurant is set in a very quiet upscale residential neighborhood of Kigali. No motos pass by in this area, so if you don't have your own transport you will have to walk back to your hotel or to reach an area where there are motos. It was a 15 to minute walk back to the (excellent) nearby Park Inn hotel where we stayed. This appeared to be a perfectly safe walk even after dark. Consistently delicious italian/french/ African food. Their Pizzas are absolutely amazing with thin crispy crusts. Why do I have to pay USD 6 to 7 for bread in the name of pizza. No toppings whatsoever. Before you judge me, I didn't order for a Margherita. It was a Diable pizza and again it has just about two tiny sausage worth of toppings on top.
Well if it is the Italian way of Pizza, as the courteous service person explained... I am willing to accept Italian style pizza but not for that kind of pricing. Boo hoo!
