I would like to address this review to Ashok as I had worked for him at 701 in the 90’s. Congratulations on adding another wonderful, delicious, innovative restaurant to the city. We were truly impressed and enjoyed our food immensely!!! We came as a party of 5 at 7:30 to celebrate a birthday. I informed the hostess who it was too. After being escorted to the table I realized that we were not going to be comfortable as we were planning to order plenty food to share. We were shown another table that was smaller despite the fact that there were 2 empty tables beside us that could have been combined. (FYI 1 remained empty all night) We were not happy but we wanted to enjoy the evening. The waiter KC or KZ was so impressive that I was like wow!! Good job Ashok. Standards have not gone down but his 10 went down the drain very fast. He barely came to check how our food was. We had to serve our own wine but that was ok too because when they were pouring it felt like let’s finish this bottle so they’ll order another one. Plate after plate was brought to our table that was filled with 5 glasses of wine and water and even the bottle itself at some point till they figured there is a standing wine bucket beside us. The busboy also brought out a plate and when we asked what it was he had no idea. I also whispered to our waiter you know we have a birthday right? He said no but now he knows. How could that be when I informed the hostess and the lady Jess who opened the wine for us greeted our birthday celebrant? I kept on waiting for what’s next till a dessert came with 1 spoon for the birthday song. I asked our waiter dessert menu? He said kitchen is closed. I said why did u not offer us dessert before it closed? Because you were eating. (He had also informed us before we ordered our main courses that kitchen was closing) Ok. Just bring us some spoons so we can share this single dessert. He brought tablespoons ?????? Now I am truly upset. Then he comes back and says oh, there is still someone to make you dessert. But we no longer want it. Also when our table was being cleaned, I asked to pack the pita. There were 6pcs and the guy just dropped the bowl back to the table, just like that. With a bang!!! Jess asked how we were and I said I’ll just write a review and she wanted to know what’s wrong. I told her and she offered drinks. Is that enough to compensate for the experience? Not really. We can afford to buy our own drinks. But thank you for offering.

A delightful Mediterranean spot up in Cleveland Park, serving up incredibly flavorful dishes for brunch and dinner! I came to Sababa for a Sunday brunch with an old college friend. We arrived right when they opened at 11 AM and they were already quite packed, so I would definitely recommend making a reservation unless you want a 30+ min wait. However, even with how busy they were, the staff was incredibly friendly and the service was efficient and attentive. Our server kindly walked us through the menu and recommended we order a couple of things to split, in true Mediterranean tapas fashion. My friend and I were, tragically, not super hungry so we went against our server's advice and each got an eggs benedict on latkes; mine came with smoked salmon, and hers with lamb. The benedicts were enormous, probably 2-3x the size of a normal benedict on an English muffin. And it was delicious -- the latke was nice and crispy, and was a good, hearty base for the smoked salmon and perfectly poached egg. The egg yolk and hollandaise mixed into the most delightful rich, creamy sauce, and they topped the whole thing with capers, fresh dill, and pickled red onions to help cut through the heaviness of it all. As delicious as it was, I definitely started to feel a bit of flavor fatigue after about half of the dish; the latke was a bit too heavy to make it your entire meal, but that's also why the server recommended we try a bunch of different things to share (so it was really our fault for disregarding his words). I'll have to come back with a larger group (or just hungrier) to try a bunch of different dishes! I'd also love to come back for dinner -- the dinner menu seems absolutely incredible, and I've heard nothing but amazing things about their hummus. tl;dr -- great food, great vibes, and great service. And listen to your server when they tell you the best way to order...they really do know what they're talking about.

I know that all of the workers (Host, Waitress, Cookers, Bartender) are exceptional workers that are working hard and bring the best customer service I have ever seen! They bring the best things to the table and make the customers feel special. A shout-out to them for their excellent work! The aroma is very relaxing inside the restaurant. It is easy to see why the restaurant is Mediterranean. The wood designs, flooring, and the lights set the ambiance in a unexplainable way. And don't get me started on the food. The food is exceptional and is served perfectly. As a person who has OCD I expect my food to be perfect in a plate. And Sababa didn't dissapoint me. The Kebabs are the most popular and it's easy to see why. The cakes are small, delicious and satisfying. It is focused on Mediterranean food so for those who love to try different types of food will enjoy eating at Sababa. But don't take word for it, try Sababa now and you won't regret it!

In 1988 the commercial real estate location of what is now Sababa was formerly Eddie Leonard's Pizza. It was great visiting this neighborhood after so many years and dining at the now chic Sababa restaurant. The ambience, food, and staff were fantastic. If you dare risk going out to eat during the pandemic this is the place that is totally worth it! Everything is fresh and absolutely delicious. You can see from the hummus we could barely wait to eat. 😂😂😂😂. The lemony burst of sumac on the hummus was a nice touch and a winner! It felt like we ordered just about everything from tapas to the lamb benedict on the brunch menu because every blend of flavors described in the menu sound so irresistible and it was. Everything was so delicious! If you happen to be a fantastic cook but you want to eat out, treat yourself to Sababa. You will enjoy every minute of your socially distant dining experience. 😍

My first time eating Israel food and of course, first time at Sababa. We went to Sababa to celebrate my friend's birthday. They did a good job making my friend feel special and personal for this special occasion. It was a positive experience. We had a good time. The service was great and attentive. As for the food, I might not be the best person to judge it as Israeli cuisine isn't what I'm familiar with and this also my first time eating it. I'll share what I thought but I'm biased. I did love the Pita bread and the Hummus with hot honey. The salmon kebab was perfectly cooked and had nice flavor. My friends who love Israeli food said the beef Kofta was amazing while I thought it was okay. The Steak kebab was cooked well but not flavorful enough for me. Overall, I like the place, the food and the experience but I didn't feel like it's worth $50 per person.

Our 2nd visit. What we learned is that the temptation to over order is strong. In my opinion, the small plates are enough for dinner, particularly if you order a lot of them. You could do one appetizer or small plate plus a dinner, but you'd be missing the incredible variety and flavors of this Middle Eastern specialty restaurant. We had the crispy eggplant, the roasted broccoli, the fried cauliflower, the hummus platter, the falafel platter, and the ground meat kabob of lamb and beef. We should have stopped there, because the lamb shank on a full stomach was too much. Everything is awesome! Also note that there are some fantastic non-alcoholic drinks on the menu: I had the pomegranate rosewater and the cucumber lime. Both are fantastic but I really insist that you try the pomegranate rosewater which has a dusting of a spiced sugar along the rim.
