Read moreBE ADVISED Non ADA compliant. Does NOT provide appropriate accommodations for those who suffer from certain disabilities. Including - but not limited to,being legally blind, hearing imparement or being deaf. I was actually early to a nearby appointment this Thursday morning,on 3/13/25 @9:50am & decided to get a quick bite to eat. I saw 'this' restaurant and thought I'd check it out. Upon entering the establishment,I proceeded toward the counter to view the overhead menu. I anxiously attempted to make out the words, with all my might- but the lettering was so ridiculously small,I couldn't identify the available options. Thinking forward and problem solving,I thought to ask if they had a physical menu, from which I could simply view and give back. This would also eliminate the awkwardness from staff trying to make special accommodations for someone who has less than perfect (20/20) vision. When politely asked this -to whom I believed to be the operating manager, I was told there was not a "togo"/physical menu or otherwise. I then asked how I should proceed, considering I couldn't see the menu board text? Responding in a rather curt and quite surprising manner,he asked presumptuously - "Can you look at your phone!?" Knowing that my only interest was an Oatmeal breakfastoption,I simplified the process and simply asked if that was available? To my dismay,it wasn't, as I was told. I said okay thanks and walked back outside. That's when it hit me. What if someone else couldn't see AT ALL & wanted to order food? Do they have a menu in brail? Or......what about people who can't speak & are hard of hearing or deaf????? I immediately Googled the necessary business requirements outlined, concerning the American w/ Disabilities Act(ADA) & read the posted information (see photo) Once I saw this,I walked right back inside and apologized for the inconvenience and asked if there was a brail menu or option for someone who actually couldn't see to read at all? With a confrontational demeanor and quite disrespectful, the same manager I engaged with prior- snapped back in the most smart aleck manner,by STATING "Are you Blind!!!?" Confused by the position I have now been put in and feeling extremely uncomfortable,I felt a sense of intimidation being forced on me. I calmly said no,but on behalf of those who are disabled,I would just appreciate a yes or no-please. Now facing away from me, pretending to be busy, the manager said no as if he were addressing someone else? I said ok and left. Although this type of behavior is NOT acceptable and should NEVER be tolerated,it is important to identify the source of it's origin. Unfortunately, the attitude demonstrated by this individual,is the direct result of inadequate instruction, training & proper leadership. Therefore- the responsibility, rest solely on the "business model", it's Owners & Proprietors. My recommendation to the business; Please comply with anti discrimination laws and do a better job,by including all those in the community who support your business. ESPECIALLY,those who have it harder than the rest of us....
Cracked Eggery is one of my fav fast casual breakfast spots in DC. I'm not a huge fan of tater tots typically (bc they're usually soggy), but their honey butter and garlic tots are to die for. I also love the huevos rancheros bowl.
However, I find it quite odd that they do not allow customers to select how cooked they want their eggs for delivery or pick up orders. Their staff in-store assured me that was an error and there should be customization options. When I contacted them via email about this concern, they shared that they do not allow customizations because there were too many upset customers/there's not a universal understanding of "over hard," "over easy," etc.
This was news to me because numerous businesses throughout the globe are able to cook eggs based on customer preferences. To be fair, even their "standard" eggs come out differently every time. Perhaps it's just that their staff do not have the skillset to cook eggs to order consistently.
In my opinion, it's ableist to require customers to order in-store so that they can have their eggs cooked the way they like. I should be able to opt out of raw, runny eggs that are more likely to contain salmonella. Really hoping they reconsider this strange policy, especially for an...
Read moreNice-looking space and marketing/graphics design to draw in customers. I went in shortly after opening hours at 7am or so and tried the "Abe Froman" (sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich) and the "Seoul Mate" bowl (pork bits in rice and kim chi) for breakfast.
The food is very underwhelming, in my personal opinion. Take a look at the Abe Froman sandwich (pictured) and notice how it's pretty much 60% a big, white fluffy bread bun. I felt like I was just eating really empty white carbs for breakfast. Also notice how greasy it was: the sandwich was dripping oil, sogging up the box. Make no mistake, this is a fast food burger for breakfast with a thick white bread bun and thin slice of pork and egg in between.
The Seoul Mate was also underwhelming. The kim chi was cold, to be expected, but I regret it was not a great option as a breakfast choice, if you're looking for a hot meal. The pork bits were very small and crispy, with one egg to satiate your palate. Again, much of the filler (though there were some greens) consisted of white carbs, here in the form of rice.
Cracked Eggery is trendy-looking, but also seems to fill up at least two signature dishes with detrimentally empty white carbs that make you feel full quickly, but not...
