This is not going to go well, unfortunately. This was my experience with a takeout order I placed Nov 26th, 2021 (6:30 PM). This was my first time ordering from Satay Brothers. I ordered three items, the "3-piece fried chicken", the "picnic for 2", and a "satay sandwich" Presumably this was to feed three adults and one 11 yo. child. To say this food was over-priced would not be an exaggeration. One of the attached photos depicts what you get for $45.00, $12.50, and $9.50. Not much food there. Certainly not enough to feed three adults and the one child. I placed the order online via one of their partners, "CHK PLZ". The payment process shuffles you through as quickly as possible to the "pay now" dialog. The order was received and the pickup time was clear. Notice there is very little emphasis of the actual price that will be charged as this appears in the smallest font on the page. As we were unpacking the bag the food came in, I noticed that there was an $11.55 tip added to the bill. I specifically indicated I was not leaving a tip, or so I thought. Not to be cheap, but this was a takeout order. There was no waitress or waiter serving us. After eating, I tried repeatedly to contact Satay Bros via the telephone number on their website without success. Voice mail answers, with no possibility of leaving a message. There is no doubt this is a popular restaurant as the food is very good. Nothing to complain about there. But it's not $89 good for the amount we got. Would I return to Satay Bros or consider ordering takeout from them again? Not for the foreseeable future. I'd caution anyone placing a takeout order to proceed very carefully through the checkout process. As a final note, Covid is getting long in the tooth. We all want to return to a normal lifestyle. Social distancing, masks, etc.is getting to us all. As popular as Satay Bros is, the place was packed like a bar on a Friday night, pre-Covid-era. with people standing in line to get in. Great for business. Not great for trying to end this pandemic.

I only ordered take away so cannot comment on the dining service but it took about 20-25 minutes for our take away to be ready as it was very busy. The restaurant itself is well decorated and has a cool and hip ambience but the noise factor was through the roof (probably due to the design of the interior and lack of sound absorption). If the restaurant is full and you are hoping to have a decent conversation with your fellow diners, forget it! I’m sure if the restaurant wasn’t full, then perhaps it’s a wonderful place for a meal! The food itself is a 3 star due to lack of authenticity, flavour and size. We ordered the laksa soup noodles and Char Kway Teow. The laksa portion was probably half of what I would expect from a laksa noodle dish as am used to a generous portion of laksa and noodles. Perhaps the concept of this restaurant is smaller portions, I’m not too sure. The soup was tasty but mainly of coconut and spice and was missing the aroma of the seafood broth base. There were only two small portions of tofu puffs, loads of bean sprouts and the noodles were not as expected. Normally one would use it egg noodles/hokkein noodles/vermicelli. Despite it being not authentic, it did taste nice and hit the spot. The Char Kway Teow was nothing but disappointing. Even though there were generous portions of Chinese sausage (a little too largely sliced and too many if you ask me), the flavour was completely off. All I could taste was sweetness and soy sauce, perhaps the sauces were used in the wrong proportion? It was also missing the aroma from the smokiness of the wok, which generally would result in caramelisation on the noodles and some of the ingredients. I just didn’t feel like I was eating a Char Kway Teow at all, very disappointing indeed! Next time, I would like to try some of the other dishes but not getting my hopes up!

SERVICE 5/5 OUR SERVER (FREDERICK??) WAS SO ENTERTAINING! HES FUNNY, WITTY AND GAVE US SO MANY GOOD RECOMMENDATIONS (FOOD & DRINKS) DRINKS 4/5 IM A LITTLE SAD THE PANDAN COCKTAIL HAD NO PANDAN TASTE OR AROMA.. EVEN THE COLOUR, THE DRINK WASNT GREEN..TASTED LIKE A FRUITY/TART COCKTAIL. I KNOW THEY SELL PANDAN EXTRACT THAT WOULD BOOST THE FLAVOUR, AROMA AND LOOKS. FOOD 4/5 W T F DID I JUST EAT!? EVERY BITE WAS SO GOOD!! PORK BELLY STEAM BUN! 4/5 GREAT FLAVOURS BUT MAYBE PICKLE THE CUCUMBERS TO HELP ROUND OFF THE TASTE? OR INSTEAD OF THE HOISIN SAUCE, MAKE IT A MAYO/AIOLI..IT WAS A TAD TOO SALTY BUT STILL GOOD! & THEIR BUNS ARE MADE IN HOUSE! LAKSA NOODLE SOUP 5/5 THE BROTH (CURRY COCONUT) WASNT AS THICK AND HEAVY OR RICH AS THE ONES IVE HAD BEFORE. I ACTUALLY PREFER IT LIKE THIS. ITS MORE LIGHT AND YOU CAN REALLY TASTE THE BROTH AND AROMAS. IVE NEVER HAD IT W.VERMICELLI BEFORE, IT WAS DIFFERENT. THERE WAS ALSO A QUAIL EGG, TOFU, SHRIMP AND FISH CAKES. LOVE THIS MALAYSIAN & SINGAPOREAN SOUP! PANDAN STICKY RICE 4/5 I LOVE THAT IT WASNT SO SWEET! SIMPLE AND SUBTLE HINTS OF PANDAN! IMO A LITTLE GLAZE OF COCONUT MILK OR AS SPRINKLE OF SUGAR/TOASTED SESAME/SHREDDED COCONUT WOULD GIVE IT A NICE LITTLE FLAVOUR BOOST! PAPAYA SALAD W.PORK?? WE DIDNT ORDER THIS DISH BUT I SNUCK IN A PHOTO! IT LOOKS SO AESTHETICALLY PLEASING TO THE EYES, SMELLS AMAZING, SO IM PRETTY SURE (MY NEXT VISIT OUT TO MONTREAL) ITLL TASTE EVEN BETTER! ALMOST EVERY OTHER TABLE WAS ORDERING IT! WE HAD A BIG DINNER AT LE VIN PAPPILON AND STOPPED BY HERE FOR A DRINK/SNACKS. WILL DEFINITELY MAKE A STOP HERE NEXT TIME W.EMPTY BELLIES FOR THE SATAY BROTHERS TO FILL UP! THX FOR A FUN EVENING GUYS!

I had a gift card given to me, so I finally got around to going to the restaurant.

I so wanted to like this place far more than I ended up liking it. I have had their food at the Atwater Market and in the Royal Victoria Hospital this was first in the actual restaurant.

We arrived around 6pm on a Friday, as I paid for 2 hours of parking my wife went in to secure a seat. When I found her they had seated her at the front bar and I was supposed to join her and when I saw the arrangement even...

The owners and staff of Satay Brothers’s restaurant should give lessons to other restaurants in creating a perfect greeting and atmosphere. This place lives up to some of the hype we’d seen in reviews before arriving in Montreal. I was skeptical and glad to be wrong.

We turned up without a reservation but won’t make that mistake again. We were greeted kindly and led next door to have a drink while a space was found. The bar staff were super fun, despite the place being jammed, and the...
