La Cabane du Pêcheur is one of those easy, unpolished gems by the sea. It’s a little tucked away near Ngor beach, but once you get there, it’s rustic tables, feet in the sand, waves crashing in the background. Beach tables fill up quickly so arrive early to avoid disappointment.
I had the grilled lobster—fresh and cooked beautifully—but it lacked that garlicky, buttery flavour I was craving. The homemade chips, though, were delicious. Choosing your lobster fresh and seeing it weighed before cooking definitely adds to the experience.
The place is popular with families, especially on weekends. It’s a lively, communal, vibe full of local energy. Expect a few craft sellers walking around offering handmade goods and there’s some wonderful art to look at next door.
Service is friendly and attentive. It’s the spot for a relaxed lunch or sunset moment. Plus, you can catch a boat across to Ngor Island just steps away for 1,000 CFA round trip. The boats leave frequently and the short ride adds to the bliss of the day....
Read moreThis may be the best restaurant in Dakar, at least for fish and seafood. Not that I have visited that many, but I have seen the lists of "best restaurants" and can compare with some other top rated places. I have spent some weeks in Dakar, visiting, over several years. The menue changes daily, based on the catch and the season (as it should). The fish and the seafood are so fresh and perfectly prepared, in the French/Belgian style. But still, there is a lot of local character to it all. Service is wonderful, and the owners (when they are around) are very approachable and relaxed. I think it's some kind of family business that has been around for decades. The location is simple, not fancy, but perfect for this type of food as it's on the Ngor beach and in the middle of a lively community of local fishermen (yes they do deliver to the restaurant every day). It has charm, character, and its own distinct sense of style. It's authentic. If you visit Dakar and you enjoy good fish and seafood, this is simply a place...
Read moreLa Cabane du Pêcheur is reliably one of the best restaurants for seafood in Les Almadies, blessed with a fairly expansive menu and a great waterside view. After a trip through the Île de Ngor, this restaurant is definitely a star attraction.
The chefs should be commended for their restraint; the natural flavours of the seafood are maintained in the dishes without being overwhelmed by excessive use of spices as can often be the case with fish served in Dakar. The spaghetti fruit de mers and the raviole are quickly becoming comfort food picks. The cassoulet is also a popular and delicious choice, despite being a little heavy on the sauce.
The service is efficient although sometimes can be less that courteous. But the food and the view makes up for the occasional service hiccup. For guests in the city craving good seafood, La Cabane du Pêcheur remains one of my...
