The maharajas overlooks the marina at Eden harbor where we rocked our catamaran thus it was the most convenient restaurant for us. We could literally see our table on its patio from our cockpit
The restaurant is part of a hotel but it was virtually deserted both times we dined there though perhaps we ate on the early side before most locals or other travelers dine
Service is a bit leisurely - “island time” - which was okay with us. I believe they would have been happy to speed up our food if we’d asked
The restaurant has a wide selection of food and alcoholic beverages and they were willing to make non alcoholic versions of those drinks too
The curry entrees come with very heavy amounts of sauce as seems to be the style of curry here in the Seychelles. Maharajas named some of their dishes after celebrities. My lamb curry was “Josh Rogan” style. Had he been a guest?
Dining on the outside deck is more pleasant than inside where there doesn’t seem to be any air conditioning. Inside has heavily carved Indian style furniture, a lot of cloth and fabric and stylized oil paintings. There are walls of wines separating dining areas.
The bathrooms are clean and comfortable
Prices are high for the Seychelles but Eden harbor is an upscale...
Read moreWe were in Seychelles for a holiday when we visited this place. Location & Ambience - The resturant is on the eden island and has ambience of a nice fine dine restaurant which is great. Food - We'd ordered paneer tikka masala with pudina paratha, fresh lime and jaljeera. This is where there we had a series of problems. 1. For the price they were charging the portion size of the gravy was too little. It was definately not sufficient for 2 people eating just 1 parantha each (so you can imagine) and also it wasn't finger licking delicious or something. It was just average. Fresh lime was good but Jaljeera was green in color which I didn't really understand. It tasted spicy with a hint of sweetness which is definately not how you make jaljeera. Parathas were very dry and had a lot of dry flour stuck on it. They were very chewy and not soft at all. Price - Obviously expensive because of the location and ambience but the worst part is they chage an additional vat of 15% which we saw nowhere else in Seychelles ( across islands) and they had not listed this info on the menu which was a bummer. There are better places to get great indian food in Mahe, Seychelles. Visit this place only for the ambience. Hope you find this...
Read moreWe went to The Maharajas to pick up our Christmas Dinner for a group of seven and were really pleased with the experience. The food tasted very good and service was great. We actually wanted to eat at the restaurant but unfortunately we couldn't because the restaurant seems to be understaffed at the moment. Nonetheless they were super accommodating, they double checked if our order was correct on the phone as well as during pick-up and packaged everything really well. We ordered quite a lot of food and nothing was missing or incorrect. While waiting for our food to be packaged they switched on the air-con even though we were the only 2 people and it was just take-away. From what I understand it's not easy for restaurants in Seychelles these days/ during Covid, so I just wanted to say thank you to the currently very small team for spoiling us with great food and service. We would definitely...
