First time visit to the Chevrons outlet expecting good food after all the Tik Tok videos and my own experiences at its original stall in Upper Serangoon.
However was deeply disappointed with the food and service. We ordered 2 soup base - pickled veg and the original broth. The pickled veg was good and it tasted like a combination of salted veg duck soup and the broth from the teochew steamed fish. But the original broth was a thumbs-down being extremely salty even when we picked less salty on its menu. Other than the pork collar that was acceptable, the rest of the raw food ordered was mediocre and was similar to the steamboat offerings that you can find at any coffeeshops - except for its much higher price tag and aircon. Do take note that there are conditions to the promotion items. Unlike what is shown on the Tik Tok videos, there is a minimum bill charges amount before you can order.
Service-wise, you should expect about a 70% difference from Haidilao standards though pricing are similar. Food orders were extremely slow e.g. 1 rice came after 15 mins. Then we wait about 30 mins for the soup base, while the rice freezes over. Then after another 15-20mins, the first raw item came. What amazed us is that it is simply a bowl of raw sausages with some garnish…The rest of the items came progressively after a while. The top-up of our drinks are also either slow or very slow…
While I continue to love their Upper Serangoon outlet, I must say that I have no love for this Chevrons outlet. If the food continues to be like this, and the service is of this standard when the restaurant is only 40% full, then the owners can expect to have some challenges ahead...
Read moreJust had our mother's day celebration there today which was also our first visit there. Made prior reservations but told to wait for a table. Reason by a staff was because "it was mother's day". We noticed many big groups are also waiting for a table. Then what is the point of making reservations? Eventually we are given 2 separate tables for a group of 8 which had a walkway in between us. We looked around and noticed many empty tables which are side by side which we requested to change over. They agreed but we waited again for at least 15 mins for the tables to be ready. By the time we settled down, it was already 1 hr after we reached the restaurant and it was before food are even served. After ordering, it was another round of waiting, at least 20 mins before the soup and raw food are served, plus another 30 mins before the cooked food (appetitizers) are served. We ended up cancelling the cooked food because they are not served after we are done with the steamboat. On top of that, the entire place was so so noisy and chaotic to the extent that we could not even hear each other and resorted to raise our voice. Food was mediocre. The only highlight was the chicken pot. Service was ok but uncomparable to any other steamboat chain. Not recommended to go during occasions or peak hours. Go only if you have plenty of time to spare and perhaps in a smaller group. We are given discount but we will never patronise the place again. It will be our first and...
Read moreWent to this amazing restaurant with some friends for dinner. Let me tell you, the soup bases were absolutely incredible! We ordered the prawn soup with lobster 🦞 , and oh my goodness, they were divine! The flavors were just out of this world. And the chicken hotpot soup, wow! It was so delicious.
I have to give a shoutout to the service staffs, they were all fantastic. They were so attentive and caring, making sure everyone was taken care of. I especially want to mention Mr. Derek and the wonderful older auntie. They went above and beyond to make sure all the customers felt cared for. They truly are assets to this restaurant.
Now, I have to mention that the atmosphere gets a 4-star rating from me because the air conditioning in the building was down. But guess what? They didn't let that ruin our experience. They provided these special strong blowers for everyone to keep cool. It wasn't ideal, but it wasn't too bad either.
And the big question: Would I go again?...
