Dear Gringos Management and Johnny,
I am not usually one to complain about product quality, price, or service. In fact, I have previously purchased pizzas from Gringos and even posted a positive review about both the taste and value received. However, I feel compelled to bring my most recent experience to your attention, as it was unfortunately far below the standards I have come to expect from your establishment.
On Friday, 12 September 2025, I visited Gringos at approximately 17h15. I ordered a drink and a Sloppy Joes pizza from a very polite and pleasant server at the bar. My drink was served promptly, and I settled in to wait.
After 40 minutes (at around 17h55), I enquired about my pizza order. The server contacted the kitchen and informed me it would be another 10 minutes. I ordered a second drink and continued to wait. Unfortunately, a further 15 minutes passed before I followed up again, only to be told that the pizza would be ready soon. Eventually, at close to 18h30—over an hour and 15 minutes after placing my order—I finally received my pizza.
I did not open the pizza box immediately, but instead finished my drink and left. Once home, and already somewhat frustrated by the long wait, I opened the box and was disappointed to find the pizza lacked toppings, was oversized for the box (causing it to be folded over), and was cold in the centre. Attempting to salvage the meal, I reheated a few slices in the air fryer, which did improve the taste slightly, but I was disappointed by the undercooked dough and reduced quality of toppings compared to my past experiences.
What concerned me most was what I discovered while reheating a second portion: the base of the remaining pizza was grey and wet (please see attached photo). This was not char from the pizza oven, and I was unsure what the cause was. Out of concern, I immediately discarded the rest of the pizza.
For a meal that cost R180 and required over an hour of waiting, I expected significantly better quality and service. This experience was far removed from the excellent standards I have enjoyed at Gringos before.
I am sharing this feedback with the hope that it will be taken seriously and that steps will be taken to address the issues in both service delivery and food preparation that occurred on this...
Read moreWe decided to be spontaneous and visit a place we pass daily for dinner and a bit of fun. After walking from our neighborhood, Loevenstein, we arrived around 5pm. I’m a white female and my partner is a man of color. We were stopped by security at the entrance and told the venue was “at full capacity”—odd, considering it was a weekday and the parking lot was nearly empty.
A woman, who appeared to be the manager, repeated the claim and dismissed us when we said we were happy to wait. We weren’t offered the option to wait inside, have a drink, or get food while space opened up. Instead, we were told to leave and "rather come back another time," despite explaining we had walked there and had chosen them deliberately.
It felt like we were being judged—discriminated against. If I'm wrong then sorry, but instead I will say disgusting service and non existent hospitality We're sorry we chose them. We won’t be...
Read moreWe've visited Gringos Cantina a few times since it is one of the only venues in the area which serves alcoholic beverages and is open until late.
Unfortunately our experience has not always been that pleasant. The venue itself doesn't have the best lighting and ventilation and it's not always easy to reach the bar area, especially if patrons are seated at the bar.
Though it is not necessarily the fault of the venue itself, we've witnessed a few altercations between patrons which makes for a bit of an uncomfortable visit.
Staff have not always been friendly and accommodating.
The food is average, though one cannot quite fault it since the venue does not claim to offer high-end dining, so this is quite reasonable and acceptable.
Pricing is good for food...
