Reno Spur — Restaurant in Bellville

Went there for breakfast/lunch on 17 December 2022 just after 10am. Our order was taken at 11am. They were semi-busy.

I order the watermelon g&t to drink and the 3 course meal for R269. My sister and brother-in-law ordered a breakfast meal each, with coke for my sister and a Windhoek draft for my brother-in-law, whilst my nephew ordered a burger and still water. My niece wanted chicken nuggets and chips with a strawberry milkshake.

My niece (5) wasn't even offered the crayon and colour-in page. Yes, she was at the play pen but later on she came to sit down and wait for her food.

We waited around 18 minutes for our drinks order to arrive. My drink came 5 minutes later (no worries, I understand it is an alcoholic beverage). The waitress brought a Castle Lager instead of the Windhoek draft however my brothers-in-law accepted it and didn't want to wait for the correct drink to be brought as he was thirsty. It appeared that our section was not the waiters section as she was seen serving the section way at the back but we're seated closer to the play area.

My niece received her food first and we waited several minutes. To the point where my sister asked another waitress to find our waitress. The drinks were finished by the time the food arrived.

My g&t glass wasn't placed in the correct glass. No idea why.

Once the food came my starter wasn't ready and the waitress told me that she brought out my mains (400g ribs and chips) because she couldn't wait for the starter (half buffalo wings). She brought out the buffalo wings once it was ready. The toast for the breakfast came halfway through the time my sister and brother-in-law started eating. After I finished my dessert (Strawberry sundae) we requested the bill.

When paying for the bill came the waitress was kind enough to ask whether or not she can deduct any voucher from my Spur family rewards card. To which I agreed and I had a R50 voucher on. Paying was fast.

Summary: Overall the service was slow. This needs a lot of improvement. Better communication from the waitrons needs to be implemented. Our waitress didn't check in with us to ask whether we are enjoying our food. Or to tell us before hand what she's bringing out and why, she did that when she brought the stuff out. Give the customer the option to accept what you as the waiter want to do. Don't ever order the plain Buffalo wings, it's not that tasty even with the sauces. Not sure if loadshedding impacts this establishment because the lights were on throughout our time there. There is a smoking section. This place...

So we went back tonight (13 May 2021) to have dinner with the family. The place was jam packed and people were standing in ques at the door. Our food was definitely a let down. My kids received no salt and pepper with their meals. No sauces were given. The waiter was running around. Somewhere on his runs, he lost his manners because when we left he didn't even say "thank you and goodbye". One customer close to us were complaining and maybe that derailed him but he was plain straight face when we left. I regret tipping him now. Our food was nothing special. The onion rings were something that you would serve to animals on animal xmas. It was crumbles and this is normally the star of the show. My burger was bad no attention to detail. Cold and klapped together for the sake of getting it over and done with. -2 Stars for me!!!

Older posts: Best Cheddar melt sirloin steak in town. The place moved to a new location for the better. The playing area was buzzing and staff looked after the kids. No one got hurt. The layout is beautiful and the atmosphere was awesome! The place gets quite packed! So go earlier!

So we went back for breakfast and we were again surprised by the all round performance of this Spur. They pay attention to detail and have upped their game. The chicken livers were on point. At some places they undercooked the peri peri chicken livers but here it was brilliantly prepared. My daughter said that the chicken nuggets were the best that she have tasted so far. We went yesterday after church to celebrate the birthdays of my two daughters. My girls got their food first, they finished it while we were still waiting. When we got our food, we finished it then we sat with the dirty plates with no waiter to clean up. She then came eventually to clean. We then got our dessert but only me, my husband and our two sons, not the birthday girls. We finished our dessert with two dirty plates on our table (we had leftovers, luckily we had the takeaway holders already)

The birthday girls still waiting on their dessert. The dessert eventually came while the table have our dessert plates and the two dirty plate with food on, with only one sparkler for one girl only. I stopped them to let them know it's both girl's birthday. They went back, the waiting take long again to come back,she told me she went to the back for more sparklers, so I asked here where exactly it the back that she took so long to come back.

We were waiting for our bill so I decided to look for her again just to find here in front at reception busy with Mr Delivery's orders.

And that is how our daughter's birthdays ruined.
