I will start with all the positives: the food was fantastic; The flavours were outstanding and unique to every dish. The plating was also very well thought out and the speed the dishes came out was super fast.
I reckon I would rather call Asian influenced rather than Asian Fusion. I believe it explains the food better.
I felt Jessica’s service and (who I presume was the owner/ general manager) was super friendly and professional. We went for a very early dinner.
Now, the not so good news… When our friends arrived they were told very abruptly that we have to be out in two hours. It was the manner in which it was said and conveyed rather than the fact that there are two seatings (which is no problem in my books). When they booked, they were told of the 2 hours and it was accepted. As a suggestion, why not find a subtle and friendly way of saying it? It is not hard to do that and still make the guests feel welcome (2 hours is more than enough time).
Next issue: we ordered 6 dishes at a time. While we were eating, two or theee wait staff would just reach between us and grab a dish and say “finished?” Or “can I take that?” There was still food in the plates!
Again, simple training of hands behind the back and a soft yet professional “are there any dishes I may remove from the table?” Would make the world of difference. Wow- talk about been rushed (I am talking about 30 - 40 minutes into our two hours, so plenty of time.
Unfortunately, for my one diner it was just too much and she just had to leave. It was a very uncomfortable situation that could have easily been avoided by some simple soft skill training.
We left well within the two hours with a bad taste in our mouth- and not from the food.
I would like to go again and give them another chance, but I will have a chat with the owner first as the wonderful food and exciting menu was honestly ruined by a couple of easily...
Read moreWow !!! I’m struggling to adequately articulate just how delicious and flavourful this Asian fusion food journey was. I knew we were in for a treat because Silk is the sister restaurant to my already favourite Bouchon Bistro.
A gastronomical journey and bringing together of all those punchy flavours from East and West. Dishes are charcoal grilled and each plate presented as a work of art. The restaurant is beautifully designed with warm lighting and lovely high ceilings.
It was wonderful to meet Chef Keigo who explained and chatted to us about our dishes with so much passion and excitement. Food isn’t just about eating it - it’s a complete sensory experience and this was an exceptional sensory delight. All dishes are designed as tapas style eating which I love. It’s such a fun interactive way of dinning. I love tasting and sharing and enjoying food and flavour together. The portions sizes are very generous, well priced and all ingredients of an exceptionally high standard. We opted for the 3 course tapas special for R245. The cocktail menu looks like something I plan on working my way through on each future visit. We opted for The Geisha - give it a try if you love granadilla and bubbles.
The staff were all so friendly, so attentive, so well presented and explained all the dishes with great enthusiasm and excitement. So, don’t walk RUN because there’s a new star restaurant taking center stage in our...
Read moreMy recent visit to this restaurant was a huge letdown. Several areas need significant improvement.
First and foremost, the waitstaff needs proper training. They don't know how to communicate well, can't explain the menu, and lack basic etiquette for clearing tables. This created a frustrating and unprofessional dining experience.
The food was equally disappointing. The meal was very average and could easily be beaten by any mainstream tapas restaurant. The duck was served cold, the pork belly was chewy, and the portions were too small. Delivering three tiny tapas dishes for seven people took three hours, with many excuses for taking an hour per tapas! There was also an awkward interaction around corkage, despite a pre-arranged agreement. The dessert tasted just like a store-bought cheesecake and was nothing special.
In terms of value, this place falls flat. After spending around 3500-4000 for seven people, we left hungry and annoyed, ultimately going out for more food. I would suggest going to La Parada instead for tastier, better-sized, and quickly serviced portions.
Additionally, there's a weird smell in the second part of the restaurant that needs immediate attention. I also don't think my comments were logged, as there was no follow-up or response.
Overall, this dining experience was highly unsatisfactory. I hope the restaurant takes these criticisms seriously and makes the necessary...
