Sloppy Sam — Restaurant in City Centre

We made a reservation for 8 people (in person at the restaurant) for supper as we were in Mochi Mochi earlier that evening and sloppy Sam’s was right next door. However, when we got there later in the evening in time for the reservation we made, the waiter who took the reservation said they were too busy to accommodate our reservation. When we enquired further, the waiter said the people sitting at the table with our supposed reservation weren’t ready to leave so there wasn’t much he could do. The waiter was rude and dismissive but at no point did he refuse to acknowledge our reservation. He then went on to say we could wait another hour and “see if a table opens up”. Wasn’t too impressed with the service we received as restaurants should not take reservations on busy days like First Thursdays if they aren’t sure they can accommodate reservations.

In no way am I trying to bash this restaurant. We know the food is good but perhaps not all employees of the restaurant know how reservations work or when to take them, if at all. As much as we understand mistakes do happen, an apology for not being able to accommodate us after making a reservation in person at the restaurant earlier that day would have gone a long way instead of the attitude we...

I wanted to like Sloppy Sam's.. No, love it! For there are few things to beat a great mezze... But alas, the food varied from good to downright sloppy... Take the dolmeh for eg.. Vine leaves filled with mush...their 'famous' roast lamb was 4 tiny pieces of chewy lamb that tasted more boiled than roasted. And those naan breads were abysmal. Made days ago and heated up. They were hard and chewy. Calamari tubes came in a tasty sauce but were somewhat overdone. The Turkish borek and loaded humus saved the day... We didn't bother ordering anything else even though we could easily have eaten a few more plates (servings are small) and went next door for some desserts instead. Very disappointing visit to this restaurant. The food served to us was cold and had to be sent back to be re heated. Although there was an initial apology from our server for this poor service there was no attempt to discount or recompense us for the dissatisfaction that we had. The food is advertised as Greek however there was nothing that we received which would have given any customer that impression. Portions were small and I came away from the restaurant feeling totally unsatisfied. A very poor experience...
