We recently had our wedding at The Grand Daddy Hotel, and while the staff on the day of the wedding were absolute stars, our overall experience was a mix of highs and lows. The event itself ran smoothly, and the food was fantastic. The post wedding snack board arranged by my mother-in-law was a highlight! However, communication prior to the wedding was lacking, which caused some stress. The rooms we used to get ready in felt a bit dated, and the carpets throughout the hotel, including the elevator, could have been cleaner. Staying in the wine park trailer (airstream) wasn't ideal - our shower didn't work, and it was noisy due to street noise. Which can be expected for Long Street. We were told that if someone booked an airstream, they would inform them about the wedding on the rooftop, but this didn't happen for two couples who booked airstreams. They only found out about the wedding upon arrival. Lucky for us they were pretty nice people. Despite these issues, I would recommend The Grand Daddy for small, cost-effective weddings. The staff on the wedding day were perfect, and the hotel rooms are worth it for the price. However, I wouldn't recommend the airstreams due to the noise and issues we experienced. It wasn't worth the price paid. That being said thank you to The Grand Daddy Hotel and staff for an amazing wedding. We are forever greatful.

Absolutely shocking hotel from service, to facilities, and even rooms. Upon check in we were advised that the hotel only has 3 parking bays and that we should park at a parkade down the road and was handed a map. We had to ask for directions to the parkade which was about 100 meters from the hotel. Would not recommend walking down this road at night as it is quite dangerous. Once we got to our room which was one of their rooftop trailers we were greeted with mold growing near the bathroom door, a shower with no hot water, and a toilet roll that was placed on the toilet brush holder because the roll holder was broken. We raised our concerns with the reception team about the hot water issue who informed us that it would be fixed. The second night we again had no hot water and reception informed us that there was hot water throughout the day and the staff member's attitude was appauling instead of just apologizing and trying to rectify it. The manager on duty did come up though in the end to rectify the issue. The concept the hotel has is amazing, it just needs a lot of work to meet their supposed 4 star rating.

This is such a unique experience! The caravan trailers are on the rooftop (4th floor) of the hotel, and you have a fairly nice view of the city. The rooms are clean, bedding is crisp and fresh, air-conditioning working as it should. The bathroom is a hit small for me, but I am larger and taller than average. This should not be a problem for the average guest. There are also bathrooms outside on the deck, next to the bar area. The staff were super friendly and helpful. They snow a movie on a big screen with a projector, for those in the mood for a relaxed evening on the rooftop. The only thing about the location is that it's quite a distance away from the nicer part of Cape Town (Kloof Street and upwards, Green Point, etc. It is within walking distance, but I am not so sure about safety later at night. All in all, I'll be back with some friends in the future!

We stayed in the rooftop Winelands Airstream which was a very pleasant and fun experience. The Rooftop Sky Bar also has a great ambience and feel to it. All and all, despite booking issues, we enjoyed this unique stay.

The booking process and administration at the Grand Daddy is a major problem. Check your bill twice when checking out. In addition, the front desk staff and supervisor have terrible attitudes and should not be in hospitality whatsoever.

We made a one-night reservation at the beginning of January 2025, for our stay at the end of January. First, upon booking we paid the 50% requested deposit. The terms said the balance was due 7 days prior to arrival. We did not receive any acknowledgement after booking. In fact we received a mail saying we should complete our booking.

7 Days prior to arrival, there was no e-mail for the balance and no payment link anywhere, not on the invoice, and not even on their site. We phoned and the front desk said we should pay upon arrival. We told them that was what their own rules say.

Two days prior to arrival we received a payment link out of the blue. We paid the balance in full using the portal link.

Upon checkout, first the agent said we owed R100 for parking. We already paid that as part of our first payment. Then she said we owed R2,832 and she swiped our credit card for R2,832. We assumed it was extras. When we asked (after paying), extras were R1067.00. They made us pay R1,750 more than we owed. After about 45 minutes of arguing, they finally agreed after a terrible attitude. They missed two of our payments via their portal. They promised to send us the invoice and to this day, despite us phoning and e-mailing, we stil have not received it. They do not reply to any e-mails.

Sadly the checkout experience and what felt like "cheating" left a very bad taste, especially the non-care attitude with no...

I had a very bad experience at the Grand Daddy on the 30th of December 2016.

I booked a rooftop airstream trailer for a night at peak rates.

Upon arriving at the hotel, i was told there is no parking available and that i should find a parkade in town.

When i got to my trailer after having to carry my own bags up i found out that they had hired out the rooftop for a private party. This party took up all the seating and some people decided on leaning on my trailer/room. Other guests and i were forced to either find another bar or sit inside the trailers. The party was noisy and i constantly had to ask people to move away from my room. I cannot believe that the hotel would inconvenience their own guests in such a manner.

After the party finished, luckily by 10pm, i wanted to have a quite drink with 3 of my family friends at the bar. They were not allowed in and i was told that the bar was then closed to the public (quite hypocritical from the hotel if you ask me). I managed to get this resolved with the manager.

The TV managed to pick up 5 channels. 2 news channels, Cartoon Network, Discovery and SABC. I did not raise this as I decided to sleep.

There is room service but only until 10:30 as I was told by reception

Next morning at 9:48 a cleaner simply walked into the trailer without knocking.

I was told breakfast is included. I checked once again with the waiter who confirmed. I ordered eggs benedict and when the bill came i was told that eggs benedict and water is not included and I had to pay.

Now i am not the complaining type but i feel that i should raise this and based on my experience, and that of other guests who stayed there that night I cannot...

Being one of the few restaurants open on a Sunday for breakfast, it came recommended by the guest house I lived in. It took my 5 minutes to walk to the thirty ate restaurant and the best part of that experience was the walk there. Upon arrival the waitress was extremely friendly as they usually are and the place is commendable for its elegance and chilled music. I requested the waitress to combine meals for me since the breakfasts was just a tad to small. She then replied saying that they aren't open for lunch and dinner, so combining different meals although I was willing to pay, was not possible. This came as a surprise since the hours says that they are open the whole day, so I guess they will be serving only breakfast the whole day. Eventually after she had to consult with the chef she then managed to add me a little extras like sausages. When the meal was done I had to wait nearly ten minutes just for the bill until the manager came passed and I had to ask for it again. The excuse then was that the system was slow, as if it is any of my concerne. i would trust that a restaurant of the calibre and pricing offer fast, effective and adaptable services, but sadly this was not my experience. I wont recommend a visit to this place for breakfast to anyone. Well unless you have nothing else to do the whole day and you can sit around for long periods of time waiting for the waitress to tend to you. By the way only one waitress was on duty and there were no more than fifteen people seated. So i dont understand why the service so...
