I’ve been coming to the athletics for sometime now but on Saturday was the worst I’ve ever had which hurts because I even recommend most of the guest at my restaurant to go for after parties and even dinner because I find the restaurant very vibey but it’s always common knowledge when u are at a place when if someone at the door speaks to you rudely and treat you bad it will ruin your whole vibe for the night , which also gets me thinking if all the guests I send to this place gets the same treatment .

Last night I sent people to athletic social and told them I will join them later when I’m done with some work I was doing and when I got there I was told that there is a private function which was odd because the people that I sent were inside and I could literally see them and was advised to call them but with the loud music and all the movements it was impossible to get through to them and we stayed on the line for afew minutes and people were being let in with no questions or approval of the so called functions guest list until one of my friends that I was with pointed out that they have been accepting bribes the whole time when people get it in which I find it in ethical to do so and I’m certain that this isn’t on the description of this place ( if it is please advice ) I felt disrespected and the way the guys at the door were talking was just too disrespectful to a point that I did feel that being a person of color is a problem at this place now because when white people come in it was all smiles and ready to open for them to enter . A friendly peace of advice fix your door because if anyone don’t feel comfortable at the door when they are getting in they won’t have a great story to tell about the place that has such beautiful decor and such...

Discovered this quintessentially Cape Town entertainment complex just before Lockdown with friends visiting from Berlin. It's a restaurant and three bar lounges situated in an old Victorian Townhouse mansion. In February 2020 they had Cape Town's finest Deep House DJ's from the 1990'S legendary clubs The Funktion, The Magnet and Cafè Dharma spinning their favourite classic vinyls. It was magical Future Nostalgia in the basement of The Athletic Club with Bruno Morphet (The Funktion), Nick (The Magnet) and Phat Jack(The Funktion). The upstairs has divine wrap around balcony leading from three sitting rooms. The main lounge was again packed this Thursday with guests dancing to 1990'S RnB hits reminiscent of legendary Thursdays at Rhodes House in the Noughties when Prince Harry was around dating Chelsea while visiting his Uncle The Earl Spencer. The Athletic Club can get quite crowded due to the old buidings architecture. This intimacy makes for easy socialising amongst strangers and a flirty atmosphere invoking the vibe of a house party. Again this year as 2years ago visitors from continental Europe outnumbered Capetonians. Security was easy going but present. The watering staff do their best to navigate the tight corridors staircases and corners. The Athletic Social Club an homage to all of Cape Town’s favourite hangouts of the last 25 years like Cafe Bar Deli and Chili n Lime at Longkloof Studios, Ponana Bar at Moja in Heritage Square, Cafe Dharma the Father of Asoka, Rhodes House and The Metropole Hotel Upstairs...

I would just like to say that myself and a couple of my friends went in to your restaurant on Saturday 16 March and we were treated horribly we went in at the entrance on the side street and asked the chef if we could enter and she said sure but our kitchen is closed so we said to her we would just like coffee and she said sure and some cake maybe and she said sure not a problem you may go thru then we went and sat down at a table. I then realised that I had a head band on with flashing lights and at that time I switched it off . A Gentlemen came over to our table and who we thought was the manger who was so aggressive attitude and asked us what are we having and the we said we would like some coffee and cake and he said he will take our order. Then we placed our order with him and in the same breath a waitress came over wanting to give us a menu he then turned to her and said no need they not worth spending money and I was shocked and did my pay much attention to that . After this happened the head band with the lights malfunctioned and the lights didn't switch off he then looked at me and said JUST SWITCH THAT THING OFF IN THE MOST AGGRESSIVE WAY AND EVEN SWORE AT ME. Once he left the table we said at the we were so shocked and uncomfortable so we got up and left I am so disgusted that staff of a Business in town could have such a Attitude to customers that want to give your business money I was so disgusted. Never have I ever been...

The best part about Winter in Cape Town, is the Winter Specials. We did the 3 course Winter Special and it was definitely value for money. The hostess gave us a warm welcome and ushered us to a dimly lit table. We each ordered a glass of white wine. Once we received our glass, we were abandoned by our waiter and made to wait forever to put our orders in. We had to eventually flag down another waiter to come and assist. For the starters, I had the Ricotta dumplings. I was expecting something different but nonetheless it was very flavourful and filling. My friend had the Calamari. She did not enjoy it as they were bland and underwhelming. For the main, we both had the lamb. The lamb was as delicious as it looked. I wasn't a fan of the chips on the sides, they could have chosen another side. For dessert, I had the orange almond cake which was okay, it was citrusy. It came with a scoop of ice-cream that complimented the cake very well. My friend went for the chocolate cake and vegan ice-cream, again she was underwhelmed and did not finish her dessert. Overall the dinning experience was underwhelming and left less to be desired. I think this place is better suited for drinks and dancing.

The atmosphere at Athletic Social is really lovely — cozy, stylish, and a great place to unwind. It’s a little dark inside but it’s not a train smash. Unfortunately, the drinks didn’t quite live up to the setting. The whiskey sour was super watery and not at all what we’re used to; even after sending it back, it still didn’t taste right. The pornstar martini was also pretty average and lacked the rich flavor and balance we expected. On the positive side, the tapas were much better! The octopus was absolutely delicious — tender, flavorful, and perfectly cooked as well as wonderfully combined with the dip. The lamb had a great seasoning and paired beautifully with the fresh salad and soft pita. Sadly, the lamb itself was quite chewy, which made it a bit disappointing overall. There’s definitely potential here — the vibe and food have highlights — but the cocktails could use some serious attention.

We received a phenomenal service from our waitress, who looked awfully familiar to me - she is, in fact, the lead vocalist of Lady Felicity and the Trumpets. She was warm and inviting, knew the food and drinks menu well, and was highly efficient. The menu offers a small selection of items. The 4 of us all rated our choices 5*: Grilled Octupus, Aubergine Parmigiana (vegetarian), and beef fillet. Our meals were well presented, and arrived in good time even though the restaurant was extremely busy. Our dishes were packed full of flavor!! Downstairs, the restaurant has an intimate venue where artists perform. I very much enjoyed the ambiance here! Definitely not a recommendation for those who prefer to listen to a light tune playing in the background and the tinker of cutlery at tables.
