Went there for dinner last night - a mistake we won't make again.
We had a booking for 8PM, but had to wait downstairs for about 15 minutes because they didn't have a table for us - not a good start, but it happens, so we weren't bothered. After some guests left, we were taken upstairs. The tablecloth was stained with curry and red wine, and there was no table setting. We ignored it and ordered a starter and some ciders.
Before long the ciders arrived, and we ordered mains and a bottle of wine. The wine arrived later in those cheap, small, thick-rimmed wine glasses, with no ice (it's really hot upstairs, even before having any curry). After a while we managed to get some ice, and all seemed well again. After more than an hour, our starter hadn't arrived, so I asked the waiter for an update. About ten minutes later, our mains were unexpectedly served with no explanation regarding the starter. When I asked about it, we were given complimentary poppadoms and the waiter said he'd forgotten to place the order.
The curry was tasty, and the portions reasonable - nothing extraordinary. After the table was cleared, we ordered dessert, it too was your average Indian fare. We were still enjoying our wine when the bill was suddenly presented. We took this as our cue and finished up.
A disappointing experience, with terrible service and okay curry. Cost of 2 mains, 1 bottle of wine and 2 desserts, R500. Glad we finally gave it a try, but next time we'll drive to Cape...
Read moreI recently had the misfortune of dining at Moksh Indian Restaurant, and it was hands down the worst experience I've ever encountered at a restaurant.
Upon arrival, I noticed there was only one chef and one waiter serving over 20 patrons, which is simply inadequate for such a busy setting. The atmosphere quickly became chaotic, and it was clear that the single waiter was overwhelmed and stressed, which only added to the frustration of the diners.
The food itself was tasteless and did not live up to any reasonable expectations. To make matters worse, we were not provided with any cutlery, and when I tried to order, the waiter refused to write down our choices, resulting in a completely wrong order.
When I attempted to address my concerns, the staff mentioned that the owner was not interested in feedback and that they did not have his contact information. This lack of care and responsiveness from management is alarming and unacceptable.
I would not recommend Moksh Indian Restaurant to anyone. It’s clear that they need to seriously reevaluate their staffing and management practices to provide a better experience for their patrons. Save your time and money and...
Read moreWe spent an early lunch there on the 11th of August 2024. We had an excellent selection of curries with exquisite garlic Nan bread. The meat was extremely tender and the curries spices were well balanced and tasty. My wife and daughter requested and got mild curry which was perfect.
The wine list supported local cellars at very reasonable prices. The chenin blanc of Laborie went down well with the curry.
The portions were large and so was the rice which was loose and fluffy.
The meal was rounded off with milk balls and ice cream, again well prepared and tasty.
I am surprised that the restaurant was not overflowing with patrons as it is clean, tidy and very pleasant to visit, which we will do again with family who appreciate good food and curry in particular.
Paarl has a hidden gem in their area, they should support it or they will lose it.
I believe from reports of family in Paarl that they also cater for take aways off the menu which is...
