My family and I had lunch at the Silver Cloud Spur in Newton Park yesterday. Everyone enjoyed their meals and thanks to our waiter (Babalwa) for the friendly and swift service.
Unfortunately, shortly after leaving the Spur I became terribly ill, with vomiting, going to toilet and unbearable stomach cramps. After our lunch we went to by brother's place in Humewood for an evening braai. Needless to say, I was very sick and could not enjoy our stay and any eats at his place. On our way home around 8:30pm, I purchased some Iberogast drops at the chemist next to the Spur. It was not my intention to even go to the Spur to complain about this, but I thought seeing I'm here I might as well inform them of my experience. The manager was not there at the time, and I my name and number was taken. Ronald from Spur has just given me a call to discuss what happened. He apologized, but at the same time defended their processes and food quality. Even going as far as saying, I could have contracted this bug from somewhere else. Now, apparently Spur's processes for incidents like this acquires you to visit a doctor and then send the doctors report to them. This is so that their insurance can then start investigating the matter.
Now this is where I am with that....
I do not feel the need to visit a doctor, because the worst of it is over, besides for some cramping, which I am treating with the Iberogast I purchased last night and occasional visits to the toilet . However, who I do think I will visit, is the local police station to formally put the information on an Affidavit and if possible get the police service to subpoena Spur for video footage of the kitchen.
Let me end off by saying that Spur has always been our choice of restaurant, because the food and atmosphere is good. I would most likely continue going to Spur, but would also be selective wrt which branches we visit in future.

Read moreThank you, Storm & Ronald! ;) I would like to share that I became frustrated a number of times as a regular customer (ordering 14+ times in month on Mr D) when my order notes were not acknowledged I phoned and spoke to the manager, Storm, about my concerns, after which my next order came through perfectly as requested. The following day I ordered again and somehow we were back to square one.I think due to different staff on duty. I then phoned again that day describing that on the previous day I had phoned to complain. On this occasion I spoke to another lady manager(didn’t catch name) whom was empathetic but it did not seem to be able to address or effectively sort the issue, as the following day I again ordered, having the same issue. I phoned for the third time and spoke to Ronald who went as far as offering to drop items I requested off for me. I refused the offer as I’m not unreasonable. I politely asked that my requests should simply be acknowledged and noted. In the end I think things have been rectified and they are attentive. The food itself is normally delicious. Storm & Ronald went above and beyond and need mentioning in this positive review. Thank you very much! Happy customer!
This was sold to me as the best Spur in PE. We started strong as the Nachos were amazing. I ordered an Eisbein which was aweful (fatty and cold) I raised it, the manager came over after checking and agreed it was a terrible cut of meat, and offered to 'replace' it. It took so long to come that everyone had finished eating the small bit I had was better. But felt pressured to finish so everyone could order dessert. I think if they had offered to take it off the bill it may have helped due to the fact it did not really get to enjoy it. Maybe check meals before they come to the table. Loved that they offer half portions. The peppermint crisp tart was tasty just tasted a bit...
